Where would you (or did you) set the cut-off year for a type-card collection?

I've thought about starting a type-card collection, but am wondering what the cutoff date would be. I'm thinking '75 so I could still squeeze in Hostess and minis.

Hi
Depends on the type of type set.
I do a type set that has 1 card from every Topps year (base)
So my cut off is arrmeggedon.
Steve
In order to do a true "type set," you gotta have some GU stuff and some ink-stickers in it.
Also, it should really be open-ended so that new "types" can be added as time passes.

For me, that's darn near the whole point of setting a cut-off date... to avoid the massive amounts of inserts, parallels, presidential hair, etc.
It can be cards from one specific year, to one of every card ever made and everything in between.

Understood. Guess I'm just curious as to what others' parameters are.
It is a very difficult question to answer. Some guys do cards up until 1945, Some do up until 1919. And so on.
I know a guy that does strictly regionals, wants one card from every regional set ever made.
The possibilities are endless.

That is certainly true.
I just think a "type set" of cards would be most/more interesting
if it always had the potential to be expanded.

<< <i>i was under the impression that i could have any collection i wanted...maybe not on the registry. maybe i missed the meno from 1600 Pen Ave about what we can collect. >>
Yeah, I've been known to drink and post before, too. Drink lots of water before you hit the hay.
In my case, since I already am working on several post-war sets, I figured that I would try to start a pre-war type set of my favorite team.
Have fun with whatever you decide to do!
Collecting: Topps 1952-79, Bowman 1952-55, OPC 1965-71, and Pre-War White Sox cards
I'm not quite complete yet, but that's the joy of collecting.
I got impatient and really like football so I have been going after pre-64 HOFers PSA graded. Have accumulated a nice collection over the past year +. Favorite card is a PSA 6 1958 Jimmy Brown and 1950 PSA 8 George Taliaferro!
Good Luck, Tony

I think your collection should be what you want, but you could always leave room for expanding your collection.
BTW, going to 75 sounds great....I was born in 68 and used to love getting those Hostess cards.
Good luck and please tell us more about your project.
