Who went to the Baltimore show?

I did! Actually on Saturday. By midday alot of dealers were packing up and I can only imagine it was a ghost town today. And before anyone says anything, yes I know, this thread is useless without pictures but I don't even know where my camera is these days.

I had fun. I guess I've been there enough times that I had 5 dealers remember me enough to know what I liked looking at. Not a big crowd, which was nice from the browsing point of view. The dealers I chatted with didn't seem to unahppy though. I heard more than one talking about 'the Russians'-- I guess they were buying. I recognized at least one suspected pair from previous visits image.

My activities pretty much consisted of wandering around, eavesdropping, and poking around in some boxes and cases.

From one my semi-regulars (whose name I don't remember as I pay cash and never get a receipt...) I ended up with a nice uncirculated 1927 Italian 10 Lire with cool color--I love those Italian chariots.

From another gentleman--who keeps teasing my by telling me about his (someday to be sold) gem Japanese type set --I did nab a really nice RB 2 sen in an NGC slab. It won't be in there too much longer as it definitely qualifies as an upgrade for my Dansco coin. He also was the source of a small handfull of very nice aluminum French territory coins (French Somalia, French West Africa and Cameroon) from the mid 20th century (all older than me and better preserved) plus a nice little 1 rin and a very nice Meiji 3 10 sen with cool color.

From Groll I got a conder token (not that I collect them of course)--but couldn't resist getting one of the Druids.

NEN was a disappointment, the darkside had already been packed up and taken home by Saturday. Sigh.

Josh/Civitas was the source of the upcoming anniversary present for my hubby--my husband is NOT a collector, but he had been thumbing through something of mine and was reading about the Roman coins. On my way out the door he threw out a 'hey, can you pick me up something with Trajan on it for under $20'? I bought something a tad nicer instead imageimageimage. I figure if I feed those comments he might fall into this morass. I also got a nice little trinket for myself too of course. Josh was also nice enough to take a couple pictures of a presumed jeton I have to see if he could ID it for me. (THANKS!!)

I met Daniel Carr and his wife at his booth. He has some really cool new design for his Ameros Linkage. He has added some wings to the horse on the riding liberty and it was cool --I talked him into selling me one of his display models it was so neat looking. I also saw his design he had submitted for the Maine quarter which was really nice. Too bad it got ruined by the mint. Both he and his wife were quite pleasant.

Julian was his usual friendly self

I eavesdropped as Laura Sperber of Legend was being very polite to an elderly man who was somewhat persistant in his efforts to interest her in buying something darkside. She told him the non-US stuff just doesn't do anything for her, but she was quite nice about it. Needless to say, she didn't have any cool Japanese coins for me.

I walked by three guys wearing Bob nametags in a row and the last one must have thought I was nuts as I started to snicker.

I bought two well mutilated Ikes to hand over to my kids.

Shockingly, no new mommy/baby or any other kind of medals. I think that's a first!

Said hi to TooTawl (hi again!!) and he mentioned Newsman and his family were there, but I didn't see them.

All in all, relaxing and fun. Even the drive was fun as I drove the mini cooper (with the ipod hookup) instead of the mini van (with fm radio), so I got to pretend to not be a coin nerd while driving. It was the last show I'll get to go to before moving, so I'm glad I went. I have a feeling my next live coin buying experience will be in Tokyo image.

Sorry I missed you, Cathy! I was there with my wife and son, who made sure I didn't get to stay too long. image

I did, however, pick up a very nice Brazil 80 reis from Civitas, so it was well worth the trip. Here's a link to their picture.

Nice discussion. I went on Saturday and sure did NOT find much. Crowds a bit sparse as you say.

I too absolutely loved meeting Daniel Carr and his wife; boy they are really nice and personable. I bought a couple of his winged horse + libertys in copper and put an order in for two of the silver when they come out (budget not permitting gold at the moment). Daniel even ran after me to make sure he signed the card that came with the coins.

I guess I never find too much and any of the nicer Brit bits are priced pretty high & they are usually on middling anyway. I had to take a coin back to NGC that I had entombed as it was a pattern shilling and was slabbed as a currency despite me giving the ESC number on the original submission. Not to dog them as PCGS made an egregious similar error some years ago when the denomination was not even correct or that it was proof or that it was a pattern of another denomination...

    Well, love these coins...

    Well, just Love coins, period.
