2009 1989 Upper Deck Buybacks

How many of these per box?

It seems that only a few show up on ebay each day since their release, yet they sell for very little.

Are they being hoarded by collectors? I'm looking for about 10-15 different cards from this set (mostly commons, semis) and none of them have shown up. This seems strange to me. Anyone have a good source for these besides ebay?

My guess is that when people pull them, they see how little they're selling for so they decide it's not worth their while and listing fees...

A Gerald Perry is a Gerald Perry whether it's pulled out of a 1989 pack or a 2009 pack, I guess?

I love the idea of buyback .05 commons. They really went deep into their pockets to re-procure these gems. Way to tap into what collectors are looking for Upper Deck!

FWIW- some sellers are putting up lots and only listing the card numbers rather than any names.

I bet an original 1989 factory set would be cheaper than a 2009 Upper Deck box. Even after twenty years the originals are cheaper than the current year product.

True, but in a few years from now, player collectors are going to have a very tough time tracking these down. Since they are stamped with the 25th logo and inserted into packs, they are something that should appear on checklists.

Biggio retired after the 2007 season. Rest of the list looks pretty good, I can't think of any others off the top of my head.

On edit, I see where Tom Gordon is on Arizona's DL this year.

Where is he stating the obvious? He is asking that if (suggesting he isn't sure a Puckett exists for this promotion) there is a Puckett available and someone who visits these boards has one, that he's interested in it.

Essentially the point of this thread.

I wouldn't figure that there would be more than 30-50 of each. They fall on average of one per hobby box. With 800 cards per set they wouldn't have to use many.

You also have to wonder if there are 900 Scott Sandersons and only 3 Ripkens.

I have a Curt Ford (crappy Cardinals OF) that's an absolute blazer!

I highly doubt thats the case.Complete sets are cheap.Hell knowing Upper Deck they probrobly printed off fresh sets just for this.

I apologize, I ASSumed that Upper Deck actually had them autographed by their respective players, hence, the "Puckett" and "Caminiti" response. I suppose I set my the bar to high, my aggression should be targeted to the manufacturers. I hope this doesn't start a new trend. There wouldn't be anything like buying a $70 box in 2010 and pulling an 86 Topps Alan Knicely,87 Topps Mike Greenwell and an 88 Topps Pat Borders with a gold stamp.

Unless people are just hoarding them right now (or not bothering to list them), this may actually be the case. I have seen multiple copies of several players and none for others. The lone Steve Sax card is over $20 currently while a Ryne Sandberg sells for $3-8. There are many players/numbers that I regularly search for that have yet to show up.

I guess it's just a matter of time, as more of this product gets broken down, hopefully these numbers start to show up. I'm just worried that 5 years from now, when this product is long forgotten, that it will be even more impossible to find the singles of the guys I collect.
