Swiss 2 rappen 1888-B PCGS MS66RD

Solid pedigree: ex-Mac, ex-Jester, ex-coinlieutenant who has had it photographed by Mark Goodman. I'm the latest lucky owner of this rare coin.

That is a very nice piece.
    Congrats,
    Richard
  • VERY nice!

I love the Swiss designs, heritage and mint masters' art; collecting some-but mostly in the post 1920 period so I can afford high grade.

As I'm sure you know it's still very cheap in comparison with U.S. coins with similar age and mintage, and
pricing really hasn't changed much for the past decade or so.

Seeing this example reminds me that I ought to be checking a little more often.

No,no- the kids and the cat are all right honey.
It's just that I got my PCGS grades.

    Very nice! image

Someone should start a thread about forum pedigree coins.

    That might be fun.

Dimitri, I've been trying to reacquire this coin ever since it inadvertently left my possession years ago. Please let me know when you decide to part company with it. Thanks.

Hey, nice image. And, the coin's not too bad either. image

Mike, sorry that I forgot you still had an interest in this coin. There does exist an equal or maybe superior specimen dated 1875, but it is raw, and part of a MS date set. Unfortunately, the owner still has no interest in selling it back to me........at least for now.

How often do we have a chance to see the same coin imaged by two different talented photographers? Here are Jeremy's photos.

Yep, I'd definitely like to get my coin back, since it and the SP68 1904 10 Rappen constituted the beginning of my Swiss collection, so if you ever come across it again, please keep me in mind. image

It is neat to see the photos...they are both tremendously skilled photographers!

I forgot Dimitri, did you sell all your Swiss coins, or were you paring back? I wonder if coinLT still has his Swiss collection--both of you have/had great coins.

Cathy, I did indeed sell the vast majority of my Swiss collection a year ago,(±80 coins) but I've held on to 15-16 monster pieces that I just couldn't part with, and this 2 rappen was just the right filling for my hole of that denomination (and to think that I had at least 25-30 gem red 2 rappens). In fact, it's only the second Swiss purchase I've made after that sale, the first one being this little specimen below.

    image

Therefore, the only way I see myself parting with it now, is if Jester can (obtain first and then) trade the unique 1850-A 2 rappen in OGH PCGS MS66RD for it,
not nearly as nice or as rare as the 1888 but its round date will do. image

John (cLT) still has his Swiss type set, including the most beautiful (MS67) 1916 5 francs in existence .I assume that he just decided to switch to a different 2 rappen than this one, since he isn't after key dates, and WWW's 2 rappen is the proof that exceptional type coins such as this 1936 can be had for much lower prices.

Bill, I surely remember that fantastic toner, and the only reason I didn't snipe it back then was because of what Cathy just said. Looking back, I should have made an exception.
