What is melt value for the $2.5 Indian gold?

If I calculated it right, it would be about $105.00, is that about right? If not what is it.

The reason I am asking is simple. I know of one that was sold and the recipient got $75. I would hope such a treasure would never be melted but I am trying to figure out just how much this person got ripped off. I have no idea of the condition but it was a 1915 or a 1925 piece. Even if this coin was cleaned/whizzed/run over by a tank, whatever, I want to know at very minimum what this would be worth for its gold content.

Before the gold runnup I was buying 3 piece modern commem sets (with the $5 gold coin) for $90 to $95 (most common issues). It's amazing what they were going for just a few years ago.

I know this has nothing to do with your question, but sometimes gold at low prices just happens.

    Easy rule of thumb $20 are slightly less than 1 oz, $10 1/2oz, $5's 1/4 oz and $2 1/2 1/8oz

All always done in exact proportion to the denomination. Same as silver coins.

One dollar silver coins, including both 90% and 40% are roughly 7% heavier than $1 in subsidiary coins.
