Who has never sold a single coin from their collection?

I haven't sold any of my coins, although I've thought about it a number of times. It just hasn't happened.

Anyone else in this boat? Any reasons why?

Just so no one is left out, those that have sold coins from their collection, do you remember the first coin you ever sold?

    I have sold quite a few over the years that have not held my interest.
    For me, that's a large part of the enjoyment I get from this hobby.
    I cannot remember the first one to get the boot though. image

    I can't afford not to sell some coins.
    I have too much interest in a bunch of series!

    I've been collecting steadily since 1963 without ever selling a coin from my collection. I have traded several with other collectors, though. I never saw any reason to sell any of my coins. If I hadn't wanted it more than the money then I wouldn't have bought it in the first place.

    Edit to add after reading the following post...I, too, have given several away; I have also spent them. The look on a cashier's face when one spends a half cent is priceless.
    Just because I'm old doesn't mean I don't love to look at a pretty bust.

    I have never sold a coin to someone else. I have given them as gifts but never sold one.

    I've sold too many over the years! Been selling since the 1960's, so I don't remember my 1st sale...in fact, I don't even remember what I sold two weeks ago without looking at my records! image

    How about sold EVERY coin from their collection and used the profits to purchase all of the coins in a smaller collection free and clear... image

    I sold my first coin about 5 years ago, it was an online purchase that really did not do anything for me.

    As I have honed my focus to what I really like over the years I have sold of sections of my collection to help fund that. Without unlimited funds it would be almost impossible to never sell. I'd be a happy camper if I could have every coin I sold back.

    I sold an ENTIRE set of PCGS Cert BU Lincolns so that I could start buying the Matte Proofs. Now I have one complete set, and another that is almost complete. That VDB MPL is a costly SOB!

    From my collection, I have:
      gifted coins (even re-gifted a few),
        donated coins,
          distributed/spent coins, and
            traded coins

            but I have not sold any yet. Truthfully, I have some I'd love to sell, but the stuff I'd sell isn't worthy of the BST and I've been too lazy to do all the work necessary to post them on eBay.

            That's exactly how I feel about the few coins that I might consider selling. Otherwise, I buy intending to keep...

            It's really interesting reading all the responses so far.

            I thought I might be the only collector out there who's never sold a coin! Good to know there are others. image I'm determined to one day sell a coin, though! image

            Never sold a single coin ! I like them all or I wouldn't have bought them. I've given a couple a way to different Children to get them interested in collecting. Tossed away a couple coins that I bought on ebay so that they wouldn't show up again.

            image I admire someone who stands up for something.Buying on fleabay and chucking them is a flash of inspiration.I only buy modern junk from the mint so I wont be selling anything soon,but I am looking for a coin that will give me that warm fuzzy feeling.However I probably couldnt bear to part with it

            It's plain silly to not sell from time to time. I can tell you about a guy who just lost more than half a million on his coins that were sold only a couple months ago. Would have been one of the best collections of _ _ coins in the world. Was clueless about how to buy these coins and seemed only interested in price price price. EVERY deal was done via email. Lost his rear end.

            You needsta get involved. That means seek out and do business with someone who really does know what's what, has the consideration to help you learn, has the integrity to alert you to the differences of seemingly identical ( seemingly to you ) coins. And who will also help you understand who to consign to, and when.

            Most people lose their rear end and are lost to the business forever. It doesn't have to be that way.

            I typically sell coins from other people's collections (make that other people's hoards)
            Once in a while, I even find a coin worth collecting.

            Thanks for your opinion. I must say that you're assuming a couple of things, though: 1- those who don't sell coins have no idea what they're doing. 2- you need to sell coins to learn about the hobby.

            Never. I buy what I like, not for business reasons. Of course I hope my collection increases in value, if and when I do decide to sell. My kids aren't interested in coins, so I'll probably sell everything off long before I kick it and spend the proceeds. BTW you can learn a lot by watching others spend their cash on coins.
