Wow, long read for this hour of the night, but I understood the points you made.

Lot of work went into those explanations.

I think, just my opinion, that if you edit it, please tell what makes the cartwheel on a coin.
I'm sure you know that if the surfaces are smooth enough from the die prep then the
cartwheel effect will not be present. Only when the dies wear and the light begins to
reflect off the microscopic defects in the surfaces does the cartwheel become evident.

    Good job, A-

You need to mention the inches of mirror required for PL and DMPL designation and how a person can use a ruler to determine the depth of mirrors (hold the ruler at a 90 degree angle to the coin and see how many inches can be read off). For the section about old green holders, many say standards were looser back then and most PLs and DMPLs would be downgraded or not get any designation if submitted today.

I hope some of experts on DMPLs find this and comment. The subject line makes that unlikely, so you might consider editing the subject line to add: "Morgan DMPLs article" or similar so those interested might find it and comment.
  • Thanks for the comments and the article will be edited with this advice. I didn't mean fro it to be so long, but there's just to much information that needs to be mentioned. I also edited the title per advice. Thanks again.

Thanks. I just edited it per the advice from others in this thread. I hope it will prevent some of these ebay sellers from ripping off bidders.

I think there are some errors. Here is one:

"Also it should be noted that a proof can also be designated as just cameo or DMPL or PL"

A proof will never be proof-like. It is a proof. The only designation would be cameo or deep cameo.

Thanks. It's edited. I just had too much DMPL and PL on the brain.

  • Your welcome. With some help from this message board members and plenty of body bags from PCGS, bought off ebay over the years. I have learned a thing or two. I just wish there was a way to get this information out to all the ebay bidders who don't know these facts.
  • Bookmarked- newbie appreciates your efforts.

(the first thought that popped into my mind looking at that '63 DMPL were along the lines of WOW!! CAM or DCAM ?; so there's a crying need for these kinds of articles-- for some of us !!!!)

  • Your welcome, but I have more editing to do. At least the facts can help identify DMPL and PL Morgans.

  • I will continue editing until it's perfect. I just can't stand how some of these ebay sellers are hyping their coins.

Raw DMPL's on EBAY are a complete joke. I love people advertising key date DMPL's there raw, like there is any chance it is not a problem coin or nowhere even near PL/DMPL.

From a non-numismatic editorial perspective there are many grammatical errors. Although your prose is very intelligible it is not always fluent. Your message is understandable, yet the whole of the article is a bit choppy. I get what you are conveying and you have some very good points to convey! But it is obvious that your presentation has not been edited professionally. Not bad for the threads on these boards, but not up to publishing quality. I'd be happy to help if you care. The presentation can be improved without detracting from your main message.

    Cheers!

  • I have done some major editing on this article. I hope it's less confusing then before.
  • I hope this article helps people and is not confusing. I want fellow collectors to learn and not get ripped off by these ebay sellers.

Your article is good, but can be improved in many areas.Personally i have and am just a collector of high grade monster black and white PCGS DMPL dollars in 65 and most higher.I think you need to go date by dateas well,as the silvery look to many later date DMPLs is way different than the say 80-S,85-O,etc.I also love black and white Proof Morgans,Seated,Trade etc. Please PM if you would like some more of my opinions, and i have examples that would help picturize? If thats a word, your article.Best,Lloydimage
Great coins are not cheap, and cheap coins are not great!
  • Thanks for the offer, but I was just making a point so ebay buyers might stop buying misrepresented coins.

  • I would like that. Please send the link or article to me. I'm always willing to learn more. I could use this information on my main website Morgan Page, with proper credits, of course.
