DGS Grading Service - Any Progress?

Hi all,

I'm just wondering if anyone knows what's going on nowadays with the DLRC Grading Service DGS (Dominion Coin Grading). Is this service establishing itself in the market more or no? Has there been any progress towards allowing the coins to list on Ebay? How is their reputability in your coin circles?

They must be doing a fairly good job otherwise we would be seeing threads here criticising their competence.

I'm sure their grading is fair, but my casual observation has been that DLRC seems to offer a lot of problem coins in the DGS slab (problems are noted on the label). This tends to make me associate DGS with problem coins and I find myself thinking of DGS somewhat negatively. -Preussen

Maybe they should just leave the problem off the label and instead just put GENUINE on the label. Would that make you feel better?

I think that ANACS has the advantage over the top two just for this service. DGS is lining up for competition with ANACS. I have had some coins graded by them and their grades seem spot on. It's tough cracking into a tight market with such finicky customers.

Lets just say I doubt you will see many DGS slabs at Heritage anytime soon.

I recently sent some coins to them because I wanted them in holders and they had a $10 special that included variety designation. I sent 25 coins to them and 21 were graded as lightly cleaned with only 4 coins graded as problem free!image I thought some of the coins may have had problems, but not that many. They seem to be very sensitive to any any possible problems and make a call of lightly cleaned if they have any doubts, but maybe that is better than just designating the coin as cleaned or genuine. To me the coins in this submission with the lightly cleaned designation looked good enough to be in no problem holders, so it is possible that if these coins were resubmitted to another grading service they may grade no problem the next time.

Is there a difference between light cleaning and conservation?

No, that's not what I meant; I take no issue with the problems being noted. The only point I was trying to make was that it seems a substantial part of their submissions are problem coins, which I don't think will help them gain much of a place in the TPG market. -Preussen
