1969 Biafra 1 pound and a 1792 barbados

Tough coins to find from this one year country. Now I have two from Biafra.image

image

This is one I have desired since I first sighting. This has iridescent blue around the head and devices, quite pretty in hand. Got them both in a Trade. Anyone else trading rather than buying.

Nice coins. Especially the Barbados copper.

I've done quite a bit of trading lately. Some examples:

    My 1871 50c Canada PCGS VF35 for an 1889 10c ICCS G6
My box of misc PCGS graded Canadian cents and dollars for 1884 10c Canada PCGS VF35, 1888 10c Canada PCGS MS64, and a 1886/3 25c Canada PCGS VG8.

I like both of them very much. Trades can be fun and wrought with danger all at the same time. image

Trades are a rarity for me, but it feels like you got your new coin(s) for free! Helpful in times of budgeting...

I have not seen that Biafra 1 Pound design before - nice coin!

I do have one of the Biafra 2 1/2 Shillings for my OFEC collection.

The Barbados piece has been on my "someday" list for a long time. image

I got a double mint set of Biafra coins (lacking the 6d of course!) about 4-5 yrs ago and thought I paid too much at ~310 USD but got nice PL coins of 3d, 1sh, 21/2 shill. and the pound pieces. Like that set a lot.

    Congrats on this coin!!!

I'll take them off your hands at that price or maybe a trade, if it is still a strain on resourcesimage

Definitely dig the Barbados! Is it in a slab? I think I can make out evidence of those prongy things.

    Cool!

Well, I do not think I would sell mine for double buy price as rather like it. Triple? Well, maybe...

The one pound notes were available in bricks for many years, not too rare....

What is the going rate for the Biafra pound?
  • theboz11theboz11 Posts: 6,576 ✭✭✭
Whatever the market will bear, It is to thin to put an exact price on. I got mine in a trade, but the asking price was $250.
  • ormandhormandh Posts: 3,111 ✭✭✭
WOW! I bought mine for $50 four years ago. Go figure.

Nice pick ups Boz. I've traded a lot lately, actually one big complicated trade, from which I got this 1873 2 drs PCGS SP63 among others:

I don't think I'd have been able to afford it without a trade, nor would his owner have sold it for cash.
The key to trades is to keep some nice dupes instead of selling them, for as long as it takes, you never know when the right trade will present itself.

Ormondh - that was a good price even 4 years ago.

I am trying to figure out how rare the 6d coins are; can't really respect the one shilling where the denomination is spelled out as I recall. So what is a 6d worth these days?

Got an email alert, my latest submission has mailed! Includes two Biafra pounds at MS64! Bought them raw, thought one was AU so I'm very pleased.
Especially since the last few sold on eBay were MS63 and MS64 in NGC, or else raw, and averaged $350.
For y'all who have one, if you still own (hey, this is an old thread!) thought you'd like to compare - just remember these are $#*%%& Secure Plus scans!

    1969 Biafra pound, silver, PCGS MS64 - #1
    1969 Biafra pound, silver, PCGS MS64 - #2

So which one should I sell / which should I keep?

Dangit, LochNESS, you Thread Resurrector, you! image

I was gonna ask the Bozman what happened to the picture of the Barbados copper, then I realized I was looking at a thread from 2009!

If it hadn't been for the number of dead images, I'd have been clueless and went right on chatting away, in a three-year-old conversation. image

Not that there's anything wrong with that. I like some of the old threads. In them, Newbiecollector is still alive and with us. Tbirde56 plays Krause quick draw artiste and nails down people's coin IDs in seconds flat, before I can even type my replies.

I miss 'em both. There were some fine times on this forum in the Good Ol' Days. image

PS- in answer to your Biafra question, you should sell #1 and keep #2. #1 has spots, and not just on the leopards.

I'm inclined to agree, thanks for your opinion!

Regarding these old threads (which are filled with valuable information) ... I thought proper etiquette was to search and learn from old threads, rather than start a new thread on a topic which has been covered dozens of times? (or in this case, twice in 2009)

Also, I assumed people went straight to the last page / most recent post and would therefore have responded to my comment instead of reading the original [old] comments. Sorry I guess I was wrong about that.

I was just giving you a hard time. Thread resurrections are fine. And can be fun. (But also confusing, if you're like me and not paying attention to the fact that you're chatting in a seriously old conversation, haha.)
