Ruined cards, or cool art?

I have wanted to do this for awhile now. Wasnt able to get all 143 cards/stickers into the piece due to size limitations (custom frame that large would have cost about 200 bucks), so I deleted the allstar cards, stickers, and a few commons that nobody will ever miss. Managed to get 105 total cards into the frame. So did I just ruin a cool set of cards, or did I make a nice piece of artwork for my home office?

I think it looks really cool. Was this a complete sheet prior?

It was a complete set given to me by forum member AJW as a gift. An uncut sheet would certainly warrant the $200+ expense of getting a custom frame made!!!

I might have added some border or a mat in the frame. Looks like you are happy and I am sure you had fun doing it.

I was wondering that myself (only because of the word ruined in the thread title). They do display very nicely though.

I think it looks great! While I have no idea how the cards are mounted, I can assure all of you that the cards were far from mint before they were framed, so there's really no worry, at least as far as I'm concerned. This is a set I've had for a long, long time, and somehow each of the cards got a nice ding on one corner. It's not really a ding, but more of a pressure mark. It's hard to explain, but I can't think of anything better for this set than to be displayed like this. The cards appear to be mint, but don't really have much value. So, why not enjoy them?!

    Well done!

I used "glue dots" (a double sided permanent adhesive) to place each card. This has no doubt "ruined" their value. However, as Drew pointed out, none of the cards would have graded too high anyway. I feel I will much better be able to enjoy these cards with them hanging on the wall of my home office rather then having them tucked away on a closet shelf. I get a big grin now each time I walk in and see all these great, vivid colors of my collecting youth up on display!image

Holy glue dots batman! Gives me shivers just thinking about it! Honestly, it is a cool looking piece, and it's worth the loss in value if you love it.

When (if) I ever get my house I'm going to do a display similair but keep the cards in binder pages when putting on the wall. May not look as clean but should keep them in good condition. Nice looking piece though!

couldn't you use like a rubber cement that would peal off without ruining the finish?? just a thought for anyone planning on trying it..

I like it though.. looks sharp
  • jswietonjswieton Posts: 2,870 ✭✭✭
I love it!! I would deffinetly add a border. It looks a little unfinished without it.

I think a border is a good suggestion. What color would look best though?
