Member appreciation thread!

I was just FLOORED today when I checked my mailbox. Last week I made my very 1st post to this forum with a thread about the 1988 fleer basketball wax box I had always wanted, and finally bought. A few of you wanted to know if I had intended on breaking it or not. My reply was that I wanted to keep the box intact, but had better buy myself a complete set so I wouldnt be tempted to do a box break. Anyway, I got a PM later that evening from a board member with an unusual request. He wanted my mailing address and said he had something for me. So I gave this "stranger" my address, and today, in the mail, was a COMPLETE SET of 1988 fleer basketball with stickers!!! A huge thank you goes out to forum member AJW for this incredible show of generosity to a fellow member!

It would be neat if you guys could share a few stories of similar nature, either on the giving, or receiving side. There are many wonderful people right here in this forum!

For starters... Lawnmowerman, Randy ( banned image ), Nam812, Stown.. Whether its a suprise card in the mail or a dollup of information on cards or even just a good laugh I appreaciate 95% of the members here on CU. Yes 95% is VERY good considering the amount of people that curculate through.

Drew is as selfish as they come. If you buy into that better to give than to recieve stuff. image

I've finally decided on a card to send EagleEyeKid (is that how I spell it???). It's only been a year and a half since he sent me one.

    Nice gift Drew, awesome. image

There was a great member on this board that sold me a beautiful SGC graded '68 Topps 3D card to my dad and I to complete our Ultimate Sampler vintage set. I wish I knew your name!!! But I do see you post on here from time to time!

    Thank you!

It's amazing that you haven't endeared yourself to this forum. Such thoughtful comments posted in appropriate threads such at this put you at the top of my list.

I would appreciate it if you would leave.

We don't need one of the better threads on this forum to be crapped on by a pantywaist like you.

image It's all good gumby, but if you don't know all these people and references it kinda sux, but oh well i guess that's the price of being a newbie...

Why do you have to ruin a good thread with your crap?

Why don't you go create another garbage thread filled with inane questions and stupidity? I know you're quite capable.
  • TheThrill22TheThrill22 Posts: 976 ✭✭✭
Mullins5, Fergie23, JSwieten, Tennesseebanker just to name a few are all good guys. Lawnmowerman was very patient and showed me how to post pictures.

Sorry guys, don't mean to crash a party. It's just that certain threads leave newbies out...Didn't mean to rain on anyone's parade, I respect you guys are close to each other, etc. and sometimes it's just hard to know what's happening/understand what you are saying. It's all good, my bad.

I have started reading/posting to the sports card boards exactly 5 days ago, so im much "newer" than you to this forum. However, it seems to me that the point of this thread is somehow lost on you. Its about the generosity of strangers, whether you are new, or established here. I fail to understand why this is difficult for you to comprehend, in fact even a non-collector could at least appreciate the magnificent generosity extended from one stranger to another. What does that have to do with "amount of time" spent on these boards?
  • MintacularMintacular Posts: 1,138 ✭✭✭
I'm not sure what you mean, with all due respect. I am first and foremost a collector. All I'm saying is that as a new poster to this board sometimes "newbies" get left out with references to different names like Jamie or whatever "different shout outs", "thanks" etc. which make no sense to some folks, myself included. All I'm saying is that maybe a PM would be a better forum to make such a comment...

Mint, if you don't know then you keep quiet and listen.

Gecko, yes the guys on this board are second to none.

    Steve
    Good for you.

I'm not sure what you mean,

    What a shock..

Here's a thought...if you feel "left out" of a particular thread, don't post a response to it..

Jeez, and you wonder why no one has any respect for you on this board..surely you can't be that dense..

I greatly appreciate my member and, contrary to my mother's warnings, have yet to go blind as a result.

On that note... many thanks to smtjoy who sent me a couple Houston Gamblers (USFL) ticket stubs for my defunct football league collection out of the blue.

Then why do you feel the need to respond? If the thread isn't for you - which it clearly isn't since this is about people we appreciate, and nobody here appreciates you - then click through and fight back the urge to click reply. It's very simple. I wish I could take my own advice when it comes to nimrods like you.

Let me guess, mommy and daddy never gave you enough attention, so now you have to go out of your way to seek as much attention as possible to make up for it. Here's a hint, it's not all about you.

Now move on to the next message board you locust. Nobody cares for you on the ebay forums and even fewer give a damm about you here.

That was very generous of ajw. Hope the urge to rip the box has been satisfied.
Between the knowledge and gifts I have recieved from the guys around here, it would take all night to list the names of everyone I appreciate here. So I will just say...Thanks everyone. image

So very true. THANKFULLY, the majority here are good folks with lots to share. Beyond the material gifts I have received from so many, the wealth of knowledge that is shared here on a daily basis is a treasure.

Gumby Fan--Why do you have to be an antagonist at every turn? Why not just say "Maybe Mintacular overstepped his bounds a bit this time...I will let it go."

It's not like I said anything that egregious this thread, yet you feel determined to make an issue out of it...In fact, I tried to offer an apology to you and this is what I get....
  • WinPitcherWinPitcher Posts: 27,726 ✭✭✭
Mint I'm going to give you some advice, it is up to you to let it go.

take whatever lumps you get in this thread and just let it go.

Reputation is everything and you have just about destroyed yours.

Keep doing what you were doing the last 2 days, that is trying to fit in.

please stop hijacking this thread.. with your poorly thought out comments
I have tried to give you the benefit of the doubt.. but it is obvious by your post tonight
    you do not deserve it
and your constant "my bad" moments are old.. no one has consistent moments like that without trying
or being a total goof ball

I have had numerous wonderful transactions with many on this board..
and hope to have many more.. I have also been saved from making some mistakes by the guys ( and gals )

I'm sorry you feel this way "OAK". Not going to challenge your view. I do like to have fun from time to time and if that is incompatible with your style that's cool. That's said, I do believe I am an asset to the hobby and an ethical seller on eBay.

I know that I've met many people on these boards that I consider friends, and I've received more than my share of generous gifts in the mail. A few members have sent me their copies of PSA's magazine, and TheMcGwireMuseum and Bobsbbcards each sent me Will Clark cards I had been unable to find for years. Thanks to everyone that has made my stay here more enjoyable than I ever would have imagined. The members here and their collecting passion and expertise were instrumental in my return to the hobby full force.

    Thanks, all.

I've gotten help, or free cards, cheap cards, etc from too many people to mention also. Recently I got a handful of great ebay advice from Storm, helped me save my father in law from getting scammed for over $400!

Thanks again to anybody I forgot!

And Gecko, if you're half as helpful over here as you are on the other side you'll be a great addition to this board!

    APRRECIATION!!!
I rec'd this from (Brett)Ymarea along with a bunch of very very very nice 1972 baseball, including a nice 72 Pete Rose and a 71 Blyleven. His generosity has blown me away.

    image

Mike Navarro sent me this because he is a heck of a guy, I was floored. (He's also turned me into an autograph hound)
    image

I remember Neenish's give away and that was two very nice auto cards and a pack of Heritage where I pulled a Joba Chamberlain auto'd card.
I've rec'd some freebies to help complete my 74 Football set and 77 Baseball set. Very appreciative of the generosity sorry if I have forgotten anyone.

    EDIT: corrected misspelling
