Invalid Bid Retractors? Am I the only one getting them?

I seem to have a rash of Invalid Bid Retractors on Ebay....the latest pulled his bid back after 7 days! I was just curious if other sellers were getting them too, and if Ebay had any way of handling bidders who do that??

Ebay keeps track of bid retractions. If you have too many they may boot you. In all honesty it stinks at the end of the auction since it may have driven away potential bidders due to an inflated price, but it probably saves you the heartache of dealing with a buyer who iis not going to promptly pay or give you the run around since they no longer want your product.

Sadly, I've had more invalid buyers than invalid bid retractors lately. image
  • Would these be classified as IBR's?

    Hi Bobby,

I'm not having that problem, but I am wondering what type of auctions you're running that might be causing you to get so many retractions?

For example, are you running a lot of auctions with reserves? .... or, are your items typically high dollar/high grade? .... etc.

If you happen to have any "serial retractors", I'm sure eBay wouldn't mind you reported them.

Is there a difference? Invalid bid retraction as opposed to a bid retraction?

    Not sure I fully understand.

Sorry..invalid bid retraction is the same as a bid retraction...either way, it is INVALID, and Ebay doesnt allow you to retract your bid.

I'm pretty sure an invalid retraction is when someone retracts a bid for dubious/wrong reasons like manipulation, etc.

A valid bid retraction is when someone retracts a bid due to an error, ie: wrong amount.

    Here's eBay's explanation:

    Invalid Bid Retraction Policy

A bid is a binding contract. All bids are active until the auction ends. If you win a listing, you’re obligated to complete the transaction. Except under special circumstances, bid retraction is not permitted. Furthermore, misuse of the bid retraction option to manipulate the bidding process is not permitted. This includes any manipulation of the bidding process to discover the maximum bid of the current high bidder or to uncover the reserve price.

Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:
    Listing cancellation
    Limits on account privileges
    Account suspension
Forfeit of eBay fees on canceled listings
    Loss of PowerSeller status

You can do it......meaning if you enter $1,000 and only meant to enter $100, you can cancel your bid and enter the right bid. You are SUPPOSED to do it immediately. I have had people retract their bids 7 days later!! That is abusing the system...
