I'll have to rescan this card when it arrives. I just bought this 1960 Larry Sherry Rookie card PSA 8. He was the Dodgers first World Series MVP in Los Angeles. I'm very happy to add this to my collection.
Great looking Davis and Sherry cards. Willie was signing autos at Frank and Sons in LA a few months ago. He's still got that same long lanky style. I always thought Larry Sherry was a great baseball name.

Tony Gwynn told me once that Willie Davis was his favorite player when he was a kid growing up in Calif.

Great advice! I actually passed up today on a 62 Bell Brand Maury Wills PSA 7 because I'm saving up for his 63 Fleer, but I really want one. And I will make sure I add a Vin and I do need a Jerry Doggett as well since I grew up listening to him too.

That's a pretty awesome card, but I'm trying to stay focussed on strictly buying rookie cards and I'm only buying actual Los Angeles Dodgers cards. I hoping next year to start buying some Brooklyn cards too, but I will wait and see.
Yeah--I know there are a bunch of PSA 9 Hodges. Anyway, is it me or do Koufax cards sell much better than Drysdale? Is there a reason for that?
I know both were great pitchers and in the HOF but it seems like there is a special place in the heart for Koufax over Drysdale in terms of card value. I grew up in the '80s so have no clue why that would be, maybe you could shed some light on this for me. Thanks! Pat

I'm now 40 years old and this is really my first effort to do a collection as well as having a collecting focus. My son will be 4 years old on May 27 and this is the start of a collection that will be his very own.
Thanks, that's interesting. I thought it might be a personality thing or something where Koufax was nice/outgoing and Drysdale a recluse. I did know that Koufax retired early and I always assumed that was a negative--but as you point out that also meant he left while on top.
Sort of reminds me of Barry Sanders, could've piled on more yards/stats but left while at his peak, or near to it, and his collector value has remained high, maybe even more so than if he had hung on for a few more yrs...

Sorry, its in reference to his autos. From what I've seen, Drysdale signed lots of autos over the years and lately, Koufax is fetching quite alot of money for a sig, don't you think?
Koufax was arguably the best pitcher ever for a 5-year span. Drysdale was a pitcher whose HOF credentials were arguable - he wasn't selected for a number of years after he became eligible.
I just picked up this 1979 Bob Welch PSA 9 rookie card. I still remember back from my childhood when my late father took my mom to see the Dodgers Yankees world series game when Bob Welch pitched .Good memories.

I do have all of them on my long list...I wanted to get everyone from John Roseboro up to Mike Piazza first. I will get the modern players too, but that will be my second phase or if I stumble across a deal I can't pass up on. If you look farther back in my thread, I did get a buyback auto card for Martin.
Picked up this Joe Ferguson rookie card. He played for the Dodgers during the 70's and again in for a few years in the early 80's. I remember he had a great arm when catching as well as when he was in the outfield. Unfortunately he was only a bench player as they had Yeager and Scoiscia along with a great outfield.

5....Koufax was certainly a Phenom
6....Koufax played a couple more years in Brooklyn and probably has many more east coaster fans.
7....Koufax was dominant
8....He has been very private and elusive
9....Don Drysdale was always more accessible to the fans
10....Koufax had some high heat....Fans love big home runs and heat.
