To rip or not to rip......UPDATE: Ripping

I should know better than to ask this question here, but I have a small unopened pack collection sitting here that is starting to eat away at my will to preserve them in their current unopened virgin state. I was thinking about getting them slabbed at some point, but not really sure if that is worth doing for more than a couple of these. So here I sit debating whether to rip or not. It's a rainy day outside today, and the box of SPX I cracked earlier only scatched part of my itch to rip. So what are your thoughts, leave as is, rip them all, or save certain packs to slab and rip the rest. Let's hear it.

Oh, and here is a list of the packs I am talking about:

'78 Topps FB
'78 Topps BB
'78-79 Topps Hockey
'79 Topps BB
'80 Topps BB
'81 Topps BB
'81 Topps BB Cello
'81 Fleer BB
'81 Donruss BB
'82 Topps BB
'82 Fleer BB
'82 Donruss BB
'83 Topps BB
'83 Fleer BB
'83 Donruss BB
'83 Topps FB Cello
'84 Topps BB
'84 OPC BB
'84 Fleer BB
'85 Topps BB
'85 OPC BB
'85 Fleer BB
'85 Donruss BB
'86 Fleer BB

    Don,

I can't believe you even asked that question! LOL Now, if you were talking about packs that were each 10 - 15 years older, that's a different question. SOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO,

    RIP AWAY MY FRIEND

    RIP AWAY!

    LMAO!

And be sure to post the results!!!

Doug - LOL, I know there really isn't anything here that I couldn't easily pick up next week if I wanted too. I was thinking about maybe sitting on the 78-79 Hockey pack, but those aren't hard to replace either.

  • I say rip and heres why....

I dont think any of those packs are worth too much so the resell value isnt too high . Although there are alot of nice packs there its
just not worth having packs slabbed unless they are 75's and earlier . Of course its just my opinion .

Good luck with whatever you decide.

'79 Topps Baseball. Ugh. Ryan was the last card. Wax on front and a corner ding.

It's always irked me that Murph was featured on two rookie catchers cards and it wasn't until '79 that he actually had a card with a good photo.

Sorry to derail, but the '78 rc catchers card had me thinking about this card:

    image

Between it and my Puckett rookie that I pulled from a pack, I thought I was hot stuff in the late '80s (age 4 or 5).

    edited to add:

I love that card...and I don't know why. I need to update it severely, but I'll never get shed of this one.

I had the wrong year on the Hockey. It's 79-80 Topps. Nobody I've heard of in the pack. Are there any low pop cards I should look for? Nice looking cards though:

The '81 Donruss were garbage. The two HOF'ers have heavy damage. Pete was the wax card too.
