2009-D D.C Quarter Opinions Please,Error, Variety? Fred...

This End coin is still in the Original Roll as shown. I'd like opinions Please,Look just above the "E" in Duke. I See what Looks Like a Phantom 8 . After Looking at This again, There seems to be a Kidney Shaped Area,between 1 o'clock and 3 o'clock position,best seen in the First Photo, on the coin. I'm wondering now if this could be a Strike Through error? Ray in Florida..

The reverse sure is chewed up. I have several rolls like that too minus the 8.

Don't know if it is really an 8 or not but it looks like it.

A stumper.....looks like a dropped letter, but there is no corresponding "8" on the coin. Closest thing is the B of PLURIBUS, but that does look like an 8 rather than a B.

Too bad about the counting/wrapping machine damage on the coin. It does not appear to be related to the phantom letter/number.

Looks like glue bubbles. How and why there'd be glue on a freshly wrapped coin, I don't know.

Thanks for the Replies. I Never found one Like This Before,soo The Big question now is if this were yours,What would you do? Is it Worth Grading? Open the Roll and Search the rest? Offer the Whole Roll on Flea Bay? Ray in Florida..

It does look like glue bubbles at that, but there is no other indication of glue that I can see.
If it were mine I would open the roll and see if there are any more like it.

Interesting...

It doesn't look related to the damage assuming it's raised.
(it looks raised in the pic)

I don't see what letter it came from so it's hard to explain as a dropped letter.

Sort of a tough one to explain.
I'd look at the rest of the coins since if it was caused by something on the die you might find others from the same die in the roll.

If you look please tell us if you find more.

Agree with opening the roll. Little to lose, as I don't see someone paying a big premium for the unopened roll UNLESS whis were a known error and there was speculation the roll could be full of them!

This one is interesting. The kidney shape looks to be glue with an 8 or distorted B stamped in it. If it were a B then it is too small to be from PLURIBUS. A dropped letter creates an incuse design where as this is raised. I would try and pick at the top edge of the kidney shape with your finger nail to see if you can chip it off. I would definitely open the roll for other finds. Just voicing my opinion. I can't say where the 8/B came from though.

Looks like some kind of machine problem during the last process before they are wrapped. Nice fine..

it looks like raised metal.
it must be some kind of die gouge
too bad about the heavy wheel marks
