Who is this Eagles qb?

Bill Bergey sent me the custom photo which I recently had signed by Chuck Bednarik. Who is the player in the middle? My initial thought was Randall Cunningham, however he never wore #17. Any ideas?

Rgs,

Greg M.

    Greg:

I'm disappointed that you would not know that #17 was Harold Carmichael. He is one of the greatest Eagles WR's of all-time behind probably only Tommy MacDonald and Harold Jackson. Tsk, tsk, tsk...

    ** Edit to correct spelling

The pic can be misleading - looks like a quarterback, but that's the way Carmichael often carried the ball after a catch with one hand like that, and I can hardly remember him fumbling.

Carmichael fumbled 17 times in his career, and that's not even debatable.

Liquidating my collection for the 3rd and final time. Time for others to enjoy what I have enjoyed over the last several decades. Money could be put to better use.

Nam - you finally got something right. image

...for 590 receptions, only 17 fumbles is pretty dam good, especially when Carmichael was never afraid to go up the middle and make a great catch.

    Harold Carmichael
  • There's an old NFL Films segment with Carmichael battling a short DB that played for the Redskins back in the day. I can't remember his name but he was about 5'9" guarding Harold. He wore those black rimmed glasses and he was wearing a mic when they were filming. Great stuff.

Pat Fischer. One of the meanest little packages of sheer rage that ever played the game.

Pat, Harold and Harold Jackson should all be in the HOF with Tommy McDonald.
  • That's right. Fischer was bound and determined to not get beat by Carmichael or whoever he covered. Thanks for the name.
