EBay Seller... Living on the Edge?

BroadstruckBroadstruck Posts: 30,497 ✭✭✭✭✭
I'm looking at this sellers listings on and wondering what in this economy these will do listed without a reserve on flea-bay image

There's 3 intense coppers that I just couldn't see listing at 99 cents and placing so much faith closing on a early holiday weekend.

I ran across his auctions on my searches, and I'm debating on bidding. Seems a little risky, but he does have awesome stuff.

I notice his listings say "All of my coins are for sale locally and I reserve the right to end any and all auctions early". It seems if things go too low he could just claim he sold them locally.

I would expect many of these listings to be ended before they run their course.

Guess the sellers just a bit braver... I lack the courage to try such auctions since it could be a blood bath! image

All of the high-end stuff from Great Southern starts off at 9.99

(still fearful of listing a prize at 9.99 and losing a bundle- the gambler in me keeps doing it.

could be anything worse than putting up something you REALLY like, then practically giving it away?!)

Great Toning Rare Coins - MrD here on the forum, starts all of his auctions at 99 cents, I believe, and they seem to do well.

    Regards,

    John

Looks like they have 31 coins up and all have multiple bids- if you have coins you are confident in you can start them at .99 and not be afraid.

Maybe 10% of coin sellers have a solid enough base of repeat buyers and bidders that they can do that. Give some of those exact same coins to a different seller that is 100% reputable but doesn't have a fan base of repeat customers, and the prices might be 30% to 50% lower. These days, there are a lot of blood baths being taken by the average sellers (as compared to the exceptional sellers with a dedicated customer base).

I have had auctions cancelled for 'reserving the right to cancel early'. I suspect these will be also.
I'll come up with something, eventually.
