A "CARFAX" Vehicle History Report For [Certain] Cards Would Be Cool

Everyday at work, I hear advertisements on the radio for CARFAX vehicle history reports. If such a thing could exist for cards (or certain cards), that would be awesome. Can you imagine that before you purchased a card you knew ...

1. When it was originally pulled from a pack (or redeemed);
2. Who the prior owner(s) of the card have been;
3. When it submitted for grading and what grade it received;
4. When, if applicable, it was cracked out and resubmitted for grading and what grade it received; and
5. How much the card sold for each time it changed hands, e.g. VCP.

I'm sure I am missing stuff, but I think you get the idea. That said, this will never happen because there would be too much work involved. But it would be cool.

    That would not likely be possible, unless you relied on "honest" owner's reports.

    Cards with serial numbers could be most easily tracked. (Just like currency is.)

    Actually, that is a good idea - for expensive cards it might help reduce or eliminate fraud if the report was done right...frankly, I'm surprised PSA hasn't done something such as this.
  • Carfax is one of the biggest scams I've ever become familiar with. The only people it benefits are the ones that know how the system works, and how to work around it. But I understand what you're saying, knowing a cards history would be very useful.

    My friends who own junk yards in several states concur.

    I can't disagree with you on that one. I've known cars that have been on their 2nd or 3rd engine. Check on CARFAX? ORIGINAL ENGINE!

  • Nice idea but just as there were over 50 grading "companies" could you imagine the confusion? The only way to truly follow this is with serial numbered cards, yes, you can do graded serial numbers but that could increase fraud......

    But in my opinion the point is that if say I bought an expensive baseball card and intended to sell it sometime in the future, I would like to have it on some sort of "list" or "report" perhaps done through passwords in some way, so that when I go to sell the card, a prospective buyer could trace the history and realize I was a legit owner of the card, if he didn't know me otherwise...and I wouldn't mind paying extra for a system such as this which could be setup by PSA and I think would have great value. I of course fully realize that prospective buyers can get info in other ways, but I think a "Carfax" sort of list, password encrypted, would be better, much better for expensive type cards...and not have PSA certification numbers publicly available for any Chinese counterfeiter or other type of scammer.
