One of the dumb things eBay sellers do

This is not a complaint....more so something I have always found funny and never heard anyone else comment on.

Take this Tony Gonzalez refractor card for example....ebay linky

"THIS CARD CAME OUT A PACK PUT IN A SOFT SLEEVE THEN A TOP LOADER AND A TEAM BAG OVER THAT."

How come most sellers that state something like that, and there are a lot,.....do not show the card in a top loader but just a regular photo of the card on their scanner. Wouldn't it make more sense to show the card, as in this example....in a top loader with a team bag?

Raw: Tony Gonzalez (low #'d cards, and especially 1/1's) and Steve Young.

Or they use the term "card went directly from pack into a top loader".

Card went directly from pack into a top loader so it has to be mint!!

One of the funniest ones I have seen was a guy selling a 1993 Emmitt Smith card stating it was his rookie card. The card was in one of those "Rookie Card" toploaders and in the auction description he said:

"My case case says Rookie Card on it!!!"

I actually apprecaite the "smoke free" part. One of my pet peeves is opening up a bubble mailer or a box and getting a strong wiff of stale smoke hitting me in the face. Smokey cards tend to have icky yellow edges too, instead of white.

I like it when they say that the cards have been in protective sleeves for 30 years--but the cards are 40 years old.

Has anyone actualy recieved a card that smelled like smoke?

Smoker's cards, yes, they stink just as described. It's important, I don't care what anyone says. As for the top loader description, I'm all for protecting the card when it is sent to me. I hate to have a card fall out of the top loader or anything in that nature while shipped. I think the dumbest thing any seller can do is send in a PWE.

My point on the top loader description is the card is not in a top loader.

I can't stand the shoeless joe auctions with the music and voiceover. I just skip his auctions rather than listen to that.

I have had many cards damaged becuase they have slipped out of the top loader when being shipped. It really sucks when all a sender needs to do is use a piece of tape or a team bag to keep it from slipping out.

This seems to be getting more and more common unfortunately. I average 20-30 ebay purchases a month and roughly 50% of them are coming in pwe's. At least a toploader is used, thank god!!

Yes, many times, unfortunatly. I have a 800 ct box with a 1990 Score set in it, and just by opening the box, you can tell which cards are the smokey ones. They're the ones with the yellow (instead of white) edges.

I've actually gotten cards that were ruined when they got stuck to the tape holding top of the top loader closed. I'd say, put the card in a penny sleeve, then put that in the top loader upside-down to avoid this.

I agree tape sucks and it's a pain in the butt to get off.

I don't care what wording the seller uses to describe the holder or whatever. Is the card what I want at the price I want? Will the seller ship it to me in a safe and timely manner? That's all I care.
