Have a look at this...........
.........great gift I just received from a good friend.
I realise it is not Darkside and not even "a coin" but I am very proud of it.

Becoming informed but still trying to learn every day!

<< <i>with a face value of $1, how does that compare with the price of copper >>
I suppose it would depend upon the current exchange rate of Liberty Dollars to US Dollars. By the way, where is Liberty anyway, and can I immigrate, now that the US has become significantly more socialist of late?
This is something I never thought I would actually have. I could not be more happy!!

I read an article about this recently in Coin World - Vol. 49, Issue 2537 - Week of 11/24/2008, Page 70:
Judge extends stay for Liberty Dollars case
by Paul Gilkes
A federal court judge on October 21, 2008 denied a motion by supporters and distributors of the private Liberty Dollars to unseal court documents investigators used to seize more than $3 million in precious metals from a depository in Idaho in 2007.
The government is arguing the seized property is subject to forfeiture based on prosecutorial claims that the Liberty Dollar compete with U.S. currency. (translation: Don't screw with the Federal Reserve!)
Federal prosecutors are still in the midst of a criminal investigation alleging mail and wire fraud, counterfeiting and money laundering related to the production and use of the Liberty Dollar medallions.
(Please note that this is just portions of the whole article)(Italicized text is my comments)
I would suggest putting these away and only trading them for cash or other coins. I also believe that these will become highly collectible if these unfortunate folks lose their case.
