1836 2 1/2 gold. How do you guys grade it. UPDATED
I have always liked these coins, but almost everyone I see, this one included, seem overgraded or worked on to me.
This coin appears reasonably original with a decent circ look and minimal distractions.
I believe this coin to be a McCloskey-B, head of 1834 block 8.
The holder is cracked, scratched and about to be destroyed by me. I Like my low grade coins raw and the coin is in a worthless slab (PCI gold)
What do you guys think of this piece?
the coin is in a PCI gold EF40 holder. I felt the coin was a decent VF and the dealer agreed. Didn't really plan on buying one of these today but for VF bid
I figured I would take her home. She will look much better cracked from the plastic

Other than that issue, I think it is quite attractive and worthy of EF45 ON A Terrible day and AU50 on a good day

I like the head design on the quarter eagles more than the half eagle. Go figure, I collect the half eagle varieties.

Sounds like you should stick to buying slabbed gold.
