Economy has hit me for the third time in a year
Last Feb. 25th I got downsized. Out of work for 5 months. Got a new job at a 25% pay cut. Great place to work so I did not mind the cut, plus I got OT so I could recoup 10% realistically by working a bit harder.
Four weeks ago they took away the OT. That sucked but at least I still had a job.
Today they are requiring all hourly contractors to take 5 weeks of unpaid time off. Basically another 10% hit.
So that sucks. To top it off my wife is on a girls three day vacation and I can't tell her that would ruin the time with her Mom.
UGGGGGGG!
I can smell the cold beer when I get home!

<< <i>They put out schedule for us. We can trade out weeks but as of right now I gotta wait to talk to my wife to find the right time. >>
Okay just check with me once you figure out a date.
I'll let you come over and pull some weeds and cut my grass

Is that code for.. like.. you know.. not that there's anything wrong with that.
Troy, I'm sorry this happened to you (for reals).
I found out this week I've been accepted into an alternative teaching accreditation program. With any luck, I'll be certified to teach in about 2 months and will get picked up by a school in my district in the early summer.
While I'll be without pay for awhile longer--and, as compared to my old job, I'll be taking more than a 1/3rd pay cut--I feel like teaching is about as stable of a position as any that can be attained right now.
Who knows, maybe I'll love it, but I assume it will simply tide me over until I can do something else.
Fortunately, as a science guy, the pay is a little bit better overall.
<< <i>Sorry to hear about further pay cuts…they never help…I’m riding a 100% pay cut right now, but things are looking up.

Congrats on that find. Tough times for many but I am thankful I still have money coming in.
At least you still have something to hold on to

<< <i>BoB, good luck with the teaching but I hope you're not in California. Layoffs coming shortly due to budget shortfalls. >>
Luckily I'm outside of Houston, Katy to be exact, in a school district that is expanding, not contracting. With all the rejections I've gotten lately, it was kind of odd to have an organization be excited to see my resume. Teachers for upper level sciences and mathematics are in short supply I guess, and the need is only growing.
