Colonial & Early American Coins

1722 Hibernia Halfpenny, Harp Right. XF40 [PCGS].
Another underrated issue, this a 1722 Hibernia date married to the reverse type of the following year. And this one is very wholesome and evenly struck with choice surfaces and pleasing rich brown color. $750.

1723/2 Hibernia Halfpenny. VF30 [PCGS].
An affordable, original, problem free example of this Redbook listed overdate. $350.

1760 Voce Populi Halfpenny, Long Nose. XF45 [PCGS].
Nelson-8 variety, considered to be Rarity-6+ with perhaps 15 to 20 known. A very nice example of this legitimately rare issue, but still eminently affordable as colonials go. $1,450.

1787 Connecticut Draped Bust Left. XF40 [PCGS].
Miller 33.7-r.2 variety, considered to be Rarity-1. A nice problem free CT copper, and exactly the sort that we try to find for the site. $750.

1783 Washington Georgius Triumpho. AU53 [PCGS].
While a number of pieces in the Redbook Washington series bear this same 1783 date, this is the only one actually struck in the 1780's (as proven by the existence of this issue as an undertype on 1780s state coppers). As such, this is a coin which is undeniably colonial and one which should be included in any serious early American or Washingtonia collection. $1,350.

US Copper

1794 Liberty Cap Large Cent. XF40 [PCGS].
Sheldon-22, 'Head of 1794' variety. Considered to be rarity-1. Pleasing chocolate brown color, with hard surfaces and no defects of note. This variety is known today as the 'Mounded Reverse'; Dr. Maris nicknamed it the 'Large Planchet' variety over 100 years ago. Both monikers are accurate. The head on this specimen jumps out in relief – almost like a medal. Perfect for a date set or a classy type set. $3,950.

1902 Indian Head Cent. PF65 RD [NGC Fatty].
An original, brilliant, red gem. $900.

1829 Matron Head 'Wheelspoke' Large Cent. MS64 brown [PCGS] Naftzger.
Newcomb-7 die variety, considered to be Rarity-3. A great example of a well-known 'nicknamed' die variety, this issue is known as the ‘wheelspoke’ based on the spoke-like reverse die cracks that seem to emminate from the center of the coin. This coin is especially interesting because it is a terminal state with the most pronounced cracks. As the Naftzger catalog put it: “This (reverse) die was ready for the scrap heap”. The coin is basically flawless, but was apparently netted for some striking weakness to MS64 by PCGS. Still, it is tied as the second finest known in both of the recognized Large Cent Condition Census lists. $7,500.

US Silver

1888 Liberty Seated Dime. MS66 [NGC White Label].
A truly beautiful coin with swirling luster and beautiful sea green toning. Housed in a really, REALLY early all white NGC holder, with the gold hot stamp on the back of the slab being inside the slab (for those who are interested in such things). Note also that the slab has been verified by CAC $1,800.

1891-O Liberty Seated Dime. MS64 [PCGS].
A top-notch New Orleans minted choice unc. with simply beautiful golden, sea green, blue and russet toning. $600.

1795 Flowing Hair Half Dollar. VF20 [PCGS].
Overton-124, Two Leaves variety. Considered to be low Rarity-5. Classic russet and deep blue peripheral toning on both the obverse and reverse attest to the decades this coin spent in a Wayte Raymond-style album. A tough die variety at a common variety price. $4,500.

1805 Draped Bust Half Dollar. XF40 [PCGS].
A beautiful, original coin just purchased from a serious collector of the series. Attractive blue and golden toning highlights the devices on both the obverse and reverse. $2,650.

1807 Draped Bust Half Dollar. AU55 [PCGS].
A stunning piece with choice lustrous surfaces and lovely golden and blue peripheral toning. We've handled many AU early half dollars, but this is about as nice as we've seen in this grade range. $5,500.

US Gold

1834 Classic Head Half Eagle. VF35 [PCGS Green Label].
A beautiful, crusty russet and green toned jewel fresh from the collection of an extreeeeeeeeemely selective collector. $975.

Classic Commemoratives

1892 Columbian Half Dollar. MS65* [NGC].
A beautiful piece with concentric crescents of rainbow toning on both the obverse and reverse (which explains why NGC has deemed this star-worthy). So do we. $875.

Would Coins which Circulated in Early America

1770-PTS JR Bolivia Pillar 8 Reales. XF40 [NGC].
Dot after CAROLUS variety. A nice example for type, with pleasing coin gray color and some pretty greenish-gray toning (of a shade we've seen before on other examples of this Bolivia issue) on both the obverse and reverse. $850.

1787/6-MI Peru Portrait 8 Reales. MS65 [PCGS].
Eliz-45, KM-78a variety. This is nothing less than the finest Peru 8 Reales we've ever seen or heard about - in fact we've never seen one of these any better than MS63. A true gem, with all but perfect surfaces, brilliant luster and some pretty golden orange toning. If you want the best, here it is. $7,500.

Esoterica

December 1689 Ireland 'Gun Money' Shilling. AU58 [PCGS].
The interesting sub-type with the date written as 10r, one of several abbreviations used for December(!) on this issue. This one is a pleasing, original chocolate brown, with sharp detail on a nice, unimpaired planchet. $600.
