My first 1972 Ike Type 2 March release

Just thought I would share my most recent purchase 1972-P Eisenhower Type 2 reverse March release. I thought I would never find one.

On the August release there is a small talon clash on the head of Eisenhower on the obverse.
I learned this information on the Ike Group web site. A great source for information on all things to do with
Eisenhower dollars. Turned me into the Ike Nut I am today

I was checking out a small coin shop in a small town near where I live and I asked if he had any junker Ikes and he brought a plastic cup from the back of the shop. Kind of like a Big Gulp cup from 7-11, full of Ikes. He poured them out in a tray (which is always like nails on a chalk board to me) and I spent the next half an hour going through them. Found quite a few in keeper shape. And the major was one of each release of the 72 type 2's March and August. I always have Rob's tag line running through my head about Cherrying Ikes when I'm in a coin shop

One small correction: only 50% of the August release T2's have the die-marker die-clash little talon head we call "talon tip", and only about 80% of the March release T2's have the die-marker die crack in STATES.
What's so darn cool is not one die-cracked T2 has a talon tip (I recently had the thrill of examining over 200 March T2's that had no talon tip or other evidence of die clash) and not one of well over 100 talon-tip T2's the Ike Group has cherried over the years had the die crack in STATES.
There are additional details and I've written the whole story in a comprehensive article (be patient, big aticle, lots of pictures, takes a while to down-load).
You'll have to read the article (my best to date IMVHO) to understand how we were able to date the second T2 release (August) and generate our mintage estimates (in rough numbers, 200,000 August T2's and 25,000 March T2's), the reason Stew has every right to be happy with his March T2 cherry!

As interest picks up in Herb Hicks' March release '72 T2 (and it will, thanks to John Robert's nailing markers in early die states, before the die crack on the reverse shows up), the valuation of the March release is bound to gradually reflect its low underlying mintage.
