Anyone Ever Find a 1983 DDR or 1984 Double Ear...

in circulation?

I'm constantly looking for these in my pocket change but have not found one as of yet. I am convinced that it is only a matter of time before I do.

What do you think? Reasonable shot to make one of these finds?

I'm looking for someone to give me hope!!!!

Yes -- I found a 1984 Doubled Ear cent in circulation several years ago in the New York area. Never found the 1983 DDR though. But I'm sure there must still be plenty more out there, just waiting to be found. Good luck image

    Yup. They're still out there...

Personally, I don't think anyone has a reasonable shot at finding one, but all you can do is search, search, search! image

Nope. I've only found two 1972 DDOs.
  • Since this is on topic and it'll prevent me from starting another thread, does anybody know a website where I can get a list of pocket change coins to look for? I have probably about $300 in pocket change to look through, I figure as long as I'm looking for those pre-64's I may as well look for the DD's and such.

  • With the economy the way it is now I bet a lot of old change jars are/will be getting dumped into circ. Probably a better chance to find them now then a couple years ago.

It's a worthy investment and one can improve one's chances of obtaining wealth through knowledge. I am not a huckster by any means, but this book will give even the least educated in coins a chance to obtain "insider" knowledge.

I have looked through many many rolls, no luck on either, or a 72 double die.

  • Yes, I have. I found eight of the 1983 DDR's back in 1983, when I lived near Gainesville, Florida. It was one of the two areas of the country (northwest Pennsylvania was the other) where they turned up. Here is a pic of one of them:

Yes, I found several 84 double ears in the Chicago area back when they were first discovered. I found one of the other types of 84 doubled dies as well- before it was reported. image

I lived in the West when these were first issued, and Philly coins were seldom seen. Now that I live in the East, most of the coins are "P" mint, and I check my 1983, 1984, and 1995 cents. No luck inthe 5 years I've been checking for them, but I'm sure they're out there.

    Back about 1990 I found a 1984 DDO.

Still have it - only one I have ever found.
