Is this anyway to ship a card?

image

image

I always ship my cards in a bubble mailer - doesn't matter if its one card or 10, a 1986 Topps Alan Knicely, or a 1/1

The left side of the envelope needed no help getting the card out. The card fell out when I grabbed the letter out of the mailbox. I realize that the post office probably did most of this....but why would anyone want to take that chance????

For God Sakes Chuck K travels better than this. A card attached to one of Chuck's errant second base throws travels better than this....

If I am out of line, feel free to call me out...

If I was the buyer, that seller would NOT like the feedback I left.

Problem is that it seems that more and more sellers DO charge enough to fund Safe delivery but refuse to actually use that money to do so.

I recently had some guy send me the wrong Bob Feller card.

I emailed him and told him. He tells me to send it back and that once he receives it he will send the other.

I paid 2.75 shipping for the wrong card which he spent 1.65 on or so with no Del. Con.

I tell him that I will do so and that he needs to reimburse my shipping.

I get the card about a week later with a smart arse note inside with the exact change taped to it. I politely blast him. I still haven't left feedback.

Why should I pay for HIS mistake?

It was a trade over on the Sports Card Forum (which I am a fairly new member). Just griping about it is not worth it. At the end of the day I got what I wanted, an 09 Topps Ruth SP in mint condition. I did make the seller aware. By the way I sent a Longoria Gold in a puffy bubble mailer.

A little forshadowing on my part...I asked mine to be sent in a bubble mailer, this was the response I got:
"sorry i only do bubble envelopes with bigger cards,i am putting it in a penny slip and a plastic case though"

Bubble-mailers and cardboard are the STANDARD method
    for safely mailing cards.

I don't care if it's one raw-card, a graded slab, of multiple cards.
The items need to be packed safely; bubble mailers and cardboard
are the accepted ways to do that.

That stinks, I'd be annoyed for sure. But at least the card is undamaged.

I've recieved dozens of cards in regular envelopes over the years, they all came undamaged.

I'm not sure I'd leave a neg for that. But I only leave negs to scammers, period.

I would say that 3 out of 10 cards that I buy off of ebay sellers are sent in plain white envelopes. Somehow only one time did I get something damaged. This happened when some moron sent 5 55 Bowmans all together in the envelope. Of course I got it ripped and one of the cards had the corner torn off!! To me a envelope= 1 or 2 DSR stars at best no matter how nice the card is , unless the shipping price is less than $2. In that case I let it slide as long as the card arrives safely.

    And there is the problem.

You probably dealt with a 13 year old who would rather have a "Sweet, MOJO" than a Babe Ruth and things a "PWE is good for 1 card"

PM me the name at SCF and I can tell you if I know anything about him/her.

Steve, if I am reading it correct it was a trade he made on a site called "Sports Card Forum" with another member of THAT forum.

    Edited for spelling.

I guess you mean the postmark? Not that uncommon to get letters and packages without the stamps canceled.

really? not that uncommon? i think it is RARE, especially in slow mail times like nowadays (recession)...

dont think they would allow people to reuse stamps in tough times....i know a PM (postmaster) and he says that is the biggest thing theuy watch--no reusable stamps!

If a forum user is sending me one card that is just a hole filler for a set, I usually tell them to just stick it in a PWE. If I am sending one card for the same purpose, I always ask if a toploader and PWE is OK.

It is kinda odd the PWE was treated so harshly but they neglected to cancel the stamps...

I agree with that as well, but I wasn't sending the guy some 09 base common, it was a Longoria Gold. I checked completed ebay listings the Ruth was selling for anywhere between $17-$35. I think it should have been sent in a puffy.

I don't think the guy is a member over here. The trade was made on Sports Card Forum. And again it could be completely 100% a post office error. I just know that its a lot easier to have a PWE ripped in half (as this basically was) as opposed to a bubble mailer.

Hard to argue that it should have been sent in a puffy....it should have. In fact, $20 is the line I usually draw to send in a box....they are decently cheap at the card shop, and are very cheap in bulk on ebay.

I just did my first trade over there....hope it goes better for me.

Quick question, it appears the PWE ripped in half and then taped back together.

If that's the case, I'm absolutely shocked that the enclosed card didn't have any damage AND the PO some how was able to repair it in that fashion. I mean, how did they tape it so the inside is visable on both sides yet still not completely transparent (ie see straight through where tears should be).

    "WHOA!
i totally apologize about that, when i went to the post office and told the lady i wanted to just send it out she ended up putting some tracking something on the envelope and told me it would cost about $15 to send out so i corrected her and she said she couldnt take it off,and she gave me a the PWE to put it in,i am extremely sorry about that."

    Huh?

What in the world was he getting for $15?!? Overnight delivery? And the PO put a tracking sticker on his envelope that couldn't come off?

They only get the postmark if you ask the clerk at the sending office to mark it, otherwise they're "usually" sprayed by the cancelling machine. Carriers also have cancelling stamps mounted on the sorting case, most of them are usually caught and stamped, some are not.

The damage is from the mail sorting machine, it caught the toploader that made the envelope not uniform thickness. It should have made it's way into a body bag and should have been stamped damaged.

The bar code sprayed on the bottom front of the envelope is sprayed by an optic reader and tells all USPS machines where the mail goes.

If you send a PWE and surround the toploader with a couple sheets of paper that fill the envelope it will probably get there ok, but that would defeat the sender's intentions of profiting on shipping.

Interesting that this came up. I just received a PSA/DNA slabbed card that was shipped in a PWE and had postage due! The azzclown put a $.42 stamp on the letter with no return address.

Now, this wouldn't be such a big deal, but he charged $5.99 for S/H!!! I emailed him about it and told him I didn't appreciate having to go to the PO to pick up the item because I had to pay the PO another friggin' $.75 after he charged me $5.99 to ship it. His response: "You got a great deal and even with the mailing costs I lost money and I left you good feedback and expect you to leave me good feedback to (sic)." Well, the feedback I left wasn't bad, but he got a "1" for S/H and won't get another penny of my business!!! BTW, I did get a good deal on the card, but that isn't really important, is it?

It is of NO importance/relevance at all.

I am VERY pro-seller, but they must be good sellers.
Using PWEs to ship fragile items is NOT being a good
    seller.

I would NEG a seller for using a PWE when to do so
    put my item at risk.

The value/price of the item means nothing. If I bought
it, I want it and I want it delivered safely to me.
