OT- Continental Flight 3407

As many of you have probably heard, Continental Flight 3407 crashed last night in Clarence Center, NY. This is only about 15 miles from my house. Very tragic. Contrary to what you may hear on TV, the weather in the area last night was not very bad at all.

Very sad Don, my thoughts and prayers go out to the families and friends of the lost. I actually thought of you this morning when I heard, as you're one of the only folks I know that live in this area.

I believe my sister had taken that flight a few times. Luckily she wasn't coming home this weekend.

    indeed, very lucky.

i was actually quite struck with an interview I saw this morning. A woman was trying to get on the flight by changing her plans, but should couldn't for some reason (i.e. changed her mind, or it was full, i don't recall). She seemed saddened but yet relieved that she wasn't able to board.

I used to have a close friend in Clarence Center, on Tonawanda Creek Road.
I was thinking of his family.

Does the FAA know what caused this? I heard it might be ice, but that's a pretty well understood condition, not likely to cause a crash as I understand it.

From the latest reports, ice on the wings appears to be a factor.

Don, glad to hear you and your family were out of the danger zone.

Sorry to hear of the disaster.

Reportedly Beverly Eckert was on board. Her husband died in the 9/11 attacks and instead of accepting a settlement, she sued the government.
