Of course. But there are an awful lot of 63s I wouldn't pay 62 money for. In fact, I wouldn't pay anything for a whole bunch that I've seen.

Of course. But there are an awful lot of 63s I wouldn't pay 62 money for. In fact, I wouldn't pay anything for a whole bunch that I've seen. >>

I believe this is the correct answer.

Some MS-62s are worth MS-63 money and then some, but this is the exception rather than the rule.

Overall, increasingly I am of the opinion that grades are overrated. Exceptionally nice coins are rare and will always be priced at a premium.

Numbers on a label judging the amount of wear, or absence of hits, etc., cannot describe all the attributes of a coin. Eye appeal is King.

The coin looks like a 58 to me and was market graded do to the nice eye appeal to a 62.

Look at the coin. There is obvious wear on the obverse. What has gotten old is the practice of assigning mint state grades to au coins.

there is absolutely no wear on the reverse whatsoever, you have to trust me on that one, since we have a photo here. But you are right about AU coins getting into MS holders and we musn't ignore the fact, too, that there are MS coins which end up in AU holders.
