Anyone else get caught in the ice storm?

Anyone else get caught in the ice storm?

Im in Southwest Oklahoma and we rarely see snow or winter weather, but this ice storm socked it to us! They predicted about a half inch of ice/sleet/snow and we ended up with nearly 4 inches of ice and sleet, and maybe a tiny bit of snow in the mix. Everything is shut down! I work a civil service job, and the Army base I work at is closed. I have only seen that happen one other time in the last 10 years. So, I got bored and went out and took photos. image

Didn't get caught in it. And I know it's easy for me to say, sitting in Hawaii, but that first photo is beautiful! Just needed an ASE in the branches somewhere...

I'm in WV and we had about 5 inches of snow and are getting a ton of ice on top of it as we speak.

My mother-in-law is in Norman, she said it was pretty bad and that she was afraid she might lose power if the ice knocked down the lines (as so frequently happens).

Not quite as bad here in Oklahoma City...Of course, since we so seldom get bad weather the city doesn't bother to invest in the equipment to clear up the roads properly so this town shuts down if it gets more than about 5 flakes of snow in an hour.image

The state offices are closed, but I have been declared as essential personnel and therefore have to slide in. (How come my "essentialness" never comes up on my yearly reviews?)

Edit because I STILL evidently cannot type!)

It just missed us here in East Texas.

I had to thaw the truck out this morning before I could get into work but the roads are okay if you just take your time.

It is 25 degrees now and warming to a balmy 35 before the day is over. image

Yes, but that is because we have enough good sense to live where the weather is bearable at least most of the time.image

Edit to add: Yes, I must REALLY be essential since I have time to read and post here!image

Staying home today (and working from home) 'cause of the ice here in the DFW area. Most roads are covered with ice and there has been hundreds of accidents already. Kids are home too as all of the schools in the area are closed. This storm would not cause much of a problem in the North East US but because of highway design here with lots of high, narrow overpasses, ramps, etc combined with lack of sanding equipment makes a small coating of ice a major problem.

The globe needs some warming, it is only 47° here.image Had to turn on the heater again, the gas bill will be high.

I am just wondering what temperature does people set their thermostat at in the cold weather areas? -10, 10, 20, etc...? I don't think those research facilities at the poles could set their temperatures too high or they would run out of fuel.image

I have never seen any ice or snow in person. One of these days I got to go north.image
