Now hold on..... I said LSU would be lucky to get his money back, and that was in context to how some folks said he got a great deal. I was not knocking his personal collection. I was making an honest comment on how I did not feel he could make a profit on trying to flip that stuff he picked up at a garage sale, because I felt he paid too much for it, to be able to make a profit after fees and such. That was a purchase he bought with plans to flip. Big difference! I have never knocked Bill's personal collection, and he can acknowledge that. As far as I know, Bill and I are on ok terms(we have discussed in a pm in the past). Why can't some of you just give it a rest, and stop trying to twist things? Is the grudge/bitterness that deep? Geez..

I don't see how Stan's frequently boorish behavior justifies a boorish and humiliating response, but on that point we may just have to agree to disagree.
Also, if I recall correctly (and I may not), Stan's point in the garage sale thread was to point out that the cards in question were either barely worth the sale price, or not quite worth the sale price. I think that's a fair point to raise, and I don't see how a post like that could be construed as an attempt to humiliate the recipient.
I know if I buy something that I think is a 'find', and people point out to me that I didn't really get a deal, I might feel a little shamed-- but only ashamed at myself for not having done my due diligence. That, to me, seems qualitatively different than mocking a collection that someone else has worked hard to assemble.

Not sure how that would be called a boorish and humiliating response Boopotts. I do agree that is someone buys something and another person says, that was not that great of deal, he is just giving an opinion. If that person goes on and on, like STMM did, it goes to the point of attacking.

Just stating the fact that you have no problem attacking other people on their purchases. Which is turn makes me less concerned when someone attacks (if you want to call it that) your collection.

I did not attack his purchase. LSU(Bill) wanted opinions on if he thought he could make a profit. I said I honestly felt he could not, mainly because of the facsimile McGwire and Jordan auto'd magazines he originally thought were signed, were not, and that what we all orginally believed was a great find, turned out to be a recoupe your money situation, more than a big money maker.. I don't know how well he done in the end, but it was less of a great find that we orginally thought. Everyone can agree to that at the very least. That is the just of it, with the ongoing bashing I took for being honest with him.
I never insulted a member's collection that he took time to assemble, nor did I tell him he could not afford what I had in my collection, unlike a certain PoppaJ done towards me(as if he knows what I have or can afford). You are just trying to squeeze something out of nothing, to continue to nonsense.
Stan stop saying what Poppaj supposedly said. It was in a PM and there is NO WAY to prove it. Also people have no idea as to what was said first. Or in what context etc.
It is very unbecoming to keep that up, especially when he is not here to defend himself.

If I knew how to do a screenshot of all the pms with PoppaJ, that would prove it. Or at the very least Carol can see it's factual with what I posted, and not one bit of editing of PoppaJ's words towards me.
I recall the garge sale thread and the lsu question about possible outcomes.
Most folks here are pretty polite and likely tend to hold back on what they really think. Some folks just spit out what they think.
Trying to use tact in expressing an opinion about what somebody already bought is often difficult. Advising about prospective buys is much easier.
Folks who too freely express their opinions are likely to be seen as rude. Sadly, that causes many folks to MUCH soften the "advice/opinions" they give. (I often give polite responses when I could tell the truth instead.)
I guess it comes down to the idea that folks who don't want to hear the worst and the best, should not ask for advice/opinions. Some folks will tell you what you want to hear, and some folks will just tell you what they really think.
...........
Something I know about folks expressing anger:
It is rare that somebody gets bashed for what they just did; the bashers are usually mad at their target about something else.
STMM may just have to accept that.
Folks Who Bite Get Bitten. Folks Who Don't Bite Get Eaten.
Stan, Please stop beating a dead horse. We get it, Poppaj sent you some inflammatory PMs. You obviously rub many people the wrong way and apparently Poppaj reached his breaking point with you. You seem to think you have to respond to every single post. Just leave well enough alone at this point. I actually agree with Stown, you have positively contributed to this board though you tend to ruffle feathers when you do. A little tact when making your point can go a long way. You can do a simple screen capture and store the image to your PC for upload to an image hosting service. Just to pimp a program my brothers wrote you can also try Desktop Scissors if you want a more elegant screen capture program. But honestly who cares?
Steve, To continue to doubt the veracity of the PMs Stan is quoting is just plain stupid. If they are not correct then PoppaJ will refute them and you need do nothing.
As for the original point of this thread, I think the use of the image was disingenuous by the seller but he has agreed to take the card back and provide a refund. Not really sure what more needs to be said.
<< <i>I appreciate the support guys. At least some of you can see through the garbage. Thank you. >>
My pleasure.
I cannot, for the life of me, understand why anyone would give you a hard time about anything.
You're good enough, you're smart enough, and doggone it, people like you.
So basically my kid won't be able to go to college, but at least I'll have a set where the three most expensive cards are of a player I despise ~ CDsNuts
To continue to doubt the veracity of the PMs Stan is quoting is just plain stupid. If they are not correct then PoppaJ will refute them and you need do nothing.
Fergie thanks for the advice, however Poppa has refuted them, I think it is on page 25 of this thread.
First off, I am not real computer savy, and I am working on capturing the rest of the pms towards the bottom of the page. As you can see this pm was sent by PoppaJ, and he took me off of block last night long enough to deny I was on block(that is how I got one pm off to him last night), and then put me back on it once he told you guys I was going to be blocked.
Essentially, he lied to make me look like I was crazy when I said I was blocked, then put me back on to make it look "official" to the board. The guy is a phony.. As you can see, the last pm was not from me provoking him via PM. He pm'ed me out of the blue on his own. I never pm'ed this guy to start anything. He has always been the first to pm me. Always. No that I have proven he is a liar, I hope he can grow that set he is always telling me to grow, and admit I WAS telling the truth.
I haven't blocked anybody from PMing me, not even you.
I was the one that asked you to PM me, rather than the two of us keep posting back and forth (which I admit I was doing as a bet with a couple of guys, just to see if you'd let me get the last post in ... but we knew you had to be persistent and wouldn't let me!)
You go and post a PM that I sent you, pretty well edited to your advantage I must say, and then have the nerve to ask why guys rag on you?
I don't brag about my Mantle collection as you say. The only times that I've ever brought up any part of my collection is when I've been asked to, or if it's relevant to a particular post.
Tim, you're a crybaby, a liar, and a self-indulged mister know it all. That's why guys rag on you.
I haven't had any problems with any other guys that I can recall. Yeah, you might say there are a few that PM you that say they don't like me, but as of late, I haven't seen any of their posts saying so... But yet, you tend to have quite a few people that think you're a pompous ass.
If you trace our beginning, you'll find that you are the one that attacked me. I have no idea what the jealousy is all about, but what else could possibly make you slam my opinions when I give them.
Whenever I give an opinion about an auto, I always say it's my opinion. I never say it with conviction, nor do I expect the OP to take my opinion more serious than anyone elses. It's just my opinion. Just like yours.
Anyway, let's see if you can refrain, just this once, from getting the last word in.
And if you feel so compelled that you must spew some afterthoughts to my post .... why not just PM me. (you're not blocked)
Don't bore everyone else.
If you have to post, go ahead .... but, I will be the man and let you have the last word.
PoppaJ
p.s. Other guys have made comments about me being the "Mantle expert" .... not me. I have never made such comments; I only humbly thanked them with a follow-up post for their kind words. >>

There was 19 days between his last 2 pms to me, and you can see in between there I did not send him any. I can't edit out any pm's when you do a screen capture shot. I told the truth, PoppaJ lied, and I have posted all I know to do to prove such. Don't know how much more anyone would need?
