Lend me an eye... was this struck thru grease?

Missed this on EBay tonight... just looking at the obverse looks like it was struck through grease.

    It doesn't really look like a grease strike-through to me. I think it was more likely a dented planchet.

    it may have something to do with the striking pressure
    and/or worn obv die

    Not what you would usually see on that date, but I also don't think it's struck through. I've seen FH coins before that had shields that weren't fully outlined.

    Really hard to say exactly what may have happened here, especially with a depression that deep and tha large, I'd be willing to bet it was a defective planchet entering the press and it left this unstruck void.
