is ebay causing your computer to drag or lock up?

BBNBBN Posts: 3,761 ✭✭✭
The last few days when I've been on ebay my computer either drags or locks up for minutes at a time. I leave ebay and go to just about any other site and my computer runs just fine. ANyone else experience this?

    The "new" ebay is slower.
Maybe they "teamed up" with microsoft to make it worse. image

seriously, with all of ebay's moves the last several months I really think a monkey would have done less to screw it up. This is a sign of a giant with no competition. They can F it up all they want because they know you or I have few avenues.

Why has no other auction site or market site experienced success when going head to head with e-bay?

ebay is faster for me with Firefox. I don't use IE to go there any longer.

eBay is a resource drain, especially if you just park there. IE will doublesuckerpunch your desktop. Firefox might be better, but I have noticed it lately hogging more and more.

YES! I'm usually shopping on ebay, playing poker tournaments and messaging on here and it locks me up in the middle of my game. Real annoying.

I use IE and haven't noticed any slowdowns even with the new crappy ebay design.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

Happens every time I use ebay - slow, clumsy and filled with clutter.

I've been using the aol browser and have had this problem. I wasn't sure if it was my computer or the web site. I absolutely hate browsing the site.

I've noticed that navigating around in the "sold items" section of my eBay is absolutely horrible. Doesn't matter what PC I'm on or when. It reacts in a delayed fashion with every click.

It will depend on your computer's hardware. My laptop that has a Core2 Duo 2.16Ghz and 1GB ram has trouble with Ebay now, where my other PC with a Quad-Core and 4GB of ram has no problem at all. The kind of video card in your PC will also play a role in how it handles all the extra graphics garbage that Ebay has added.

I sure wish there were a site like Ebay for coins/currency ONLY that had the same (or comperable) volume of buyers. I'd quit Ebay (for coins anyway) immediately.

    Another rant that is related...

I disputed a charge on my Paypal debit card and though I got the chargeback, Paypal cancelled my dang card! I use that card virtually everyday so they just screwed me. I didn't ask to cancel it, they just decided to cancel it on their own. Now I have to get a new card which will take a month to get. THANKS PAYPAL!

    I swear...

At times recently our computer at work will not download the thumbs. I dont know if it is our software or ebay. And yes, the new webpages were probably designed by teenagers who worked for someone like facebook and have no idea what people who buy and sell in large quantities need to see. jmho.

Use Firefox and install the add-on "Flashblock". You should see a dramatic improvement.

Firefox all the way. IE was lagging on several sites including ebay, weather channel, news stories, and anything loading a bunch of ads and stuff. It's like it's waiting for the last little thing to download before displaying anything. Firefox sped up even my old junker P4 from the early 90s that the kids use for Disney. --Jerry

When I'm signed in to an ebay name with over 250 listings, it runs extremely slow, resembling dial-up. When I'm in a name with less than 30 listings, it's running almost normally. I hate this new system.

I have a dual core with 4GB and a top notch video card - it doesn't matter.
Have bought and sold on BST, many references available when asked.

I am NOT going to change browsers for EBay. I am thinking of leaving EBay altogether for ANYTHING but EBay.

I know they will never listen to me, do they ever listen to what you think, John ?

I can not EVEN imagine what it is like for a big vendor like Modern. This has got to be torture.

TRY USING EBay UK to Navigate - I love it!

Thanks to Board Member, MacCrimmon for the suggestion.

Funny this is one of the first threads I saw after rebooting.
I've had to reboot several times today because the computer would freeze up.
I wondered what the problem was.
You guessed it, all problems seem to have been Ebay related.

I believe so. I always see the page waiting for about:blank in status bar. I have to replace my CPU heatsink this weekend to reduce the heat from CPU. I always clear the cookies, file history and delete tmp files to make the page load faster.
