Set Registry

Do you participate in the PCGS set registry and do you plan your collecting activities around that or do you just buy whatever you like that day? Does the number you stand at in the registry mean anything to you?

I think most people will say that they participate in the regestry but they buy what they like, not necessarily for whether it helps them in the registry or not.

Just wondering because I collect mostly XF45 Lincolns in PCGS and wasn't sure if anyone else was obsessed as I was about the registry.

Neither. There are some upgrades that I need and I will buy them when I find them.

Yes, early Lincolns (complete, #20) and Peace dollars (#40-something...gotta cross 7 NGC's to complete a PCGS set).

No. I don't plan my collecting around the registry sets but I do watch for upgrades.

Yes, I buy what I like, most recently a sweet raw Seated Liberty Half, XF45, I think.

Yes, the registry standing means something to me. It means I know I will never be among the best.

But I'm content and I enjoy seeing other sets. I wish more owners would post pictures!

Yes - Large Cents, OGH Walking Liberty Halves, Lib $2.50's

No - I am just trying to complete my sets. Upgrading when possible certainly helps with registry points. Where possible I collect coins scarce in all grades instead of spending large sums for top pops.

No - I collect what I like. My Registry standing tells me more about how many other collectors collect what I like and less about how much I am spending.

I don't. I suspect if I ever wanted to complete a set I would...but I couldn't play with the big boys anyway.
