I decided to go to the Grand Rapids Coin Club show today at the Legion Hall. I've never been to the show before today and walked in and recognized many dealers from the Lansing Club show a couple months ago and the frequent Roger's Plaza shows. I saw very few dealer's I didn't know.
Overall, things seemed to be the same old stuff, but there were a couple dealers with some nice new slabbed material. I almost bought a pair of MS64 Columbian Halves that matched beautifully with an Isabella I recently purchased, but decided to pass. There was a lot of talk, on both sides of the table, about the economy and the slump in the coin market. I talked with many dealers who said they haven't had much luck at shows recently. A couple of dealers I talked to had phenomenal business. Those two have nice stuff, and very consistent customers.
It seems that the local shows around Grand Rapids lately have been bringing nicer things, or maybe I'm just noticing more. A lot of nice material.
I brought a box of some of my nicer things to sell and it was hard trying to move them. A lot of it though was out of the range of most dealers in attendance. I did manage to sell one thing, an 1893 Proof Barber Dime in PCGS PR65CAM.
By far the nicest coin on the bourse (and I told the dealer this) was an 1861 Proof Seated Dollar NGC PR63. Low grade due to hairlines, but the eye appeal was just amazing. Gorgeous rim toning with blue and red on both sides. Absolutely stunning coin. Price tag was about 40% higher than I thought a reasonable price would be, but it was a nice coin.
I only ended up buying one little thing, a 1925 Lincoln Cent. It's nicely toned blue on both sides. Possibly AT, but it's borderline. My computer isn't working, so I can't upload pics.

Hoard the keys.
I flew my uncle from Detroit out here for the Tucson show ( he started me in coins in the 60's)
His reaction was pretty neat to watch. It seems MI is in a sort of twilight zone, in other words dead. I thought the Tucson show was dead, but he had a great time, and thought it was allright.
Glad to have an eye and an ear in MI, keep the reports coming. If any part of the country can give a hint as to the current eco-crisis, it's MI. Glad to hear from you.
