Where are all the Bust Dollars?

I feel like I am searching everywhere I can at least once a week for graded heraldic eagle bust dollars in G-VG and I just can't find them. Well, can't find them in those grades without being net graded in ANACS holders anyway. I see more VF25 than I can possibly count. I see more net graded coins than my old statistics teacher can count. At any given moment you can find more AU examples for sale than true problem free VG. I'm not being a brand snob either - I am talking about PCGS, NGC, or ANACS (non net grade) and I can't find a damn one. Has anyone else noticed this? Why is this the case?

If these coins were struck in larger amounts there might have been a better survival rate existing today. There are not many lower grade pieces that have not been mishandled or "improved" in some way through the long years. You may have to raise your sights a little in order to find a pleasing coin.

It is a big, heavy coin...so they don't survive well into the lower grades without attracting problems. If you were looking for a dime, then you would find your low grades. It is a little like a child...they trip an fall and jump right back up...but me, when I fall it tends to leave bruises and broken bones. Since we are made of the same stuff but my mass is greater, I sustain more damage. Simple laws of physics.
