I examined this coin in-hand at the Baltimore show and it is truly superb. However, it is unfortunate that Joe Kaminski does not have a more gifted photographer to image his coins since he is one of the good guys.

Am I to understand that since he's "one of the good guys", he gets a pass for juicing his photos and misrepresenting the coin?

I think there is a difference between juicing a photo and misrepresenting it. I juice photos to make them look more like the coin does in hand, which I think is what the seller is trying to do here. I agree it looks a little overdone, but I know enough by those photos to know I would love to own that coin.

You can ask all you like. It's a brilliant proof with significant color that changes somewhat with rotation, which is not unusual for brilliant proofs with lots of toning. The images are a representation of the coin that, while not completely accurate, are not actually nicer than the coin itself either. Additionally, Joe offers a full seven-day return period for refund, minus shipping. Have you seen the coin in-hand?

Well Paul, since you took the time to rush to this seller's defense, yet agreed that the photo is juiced (wanting to own the coin has no relevence in this topic), I'll ask you to comment on the next example...

Should I choose to purchase the following coin, tell me what it will look like in hand? Or perhaps another pass is in order???

No, actually all I've seen are intentionally juiced images to the point where there isn't a single comment suggesting the images aren't juiced. Comments???

Of course the images are quite poor relative to the standards of today and this is the point I was making in my first post on this topic. However, the images are worse than the coin in-hand, which is not the typical motivation of someone trying to juice an image to rip an unsuspecting buyer. Rather, in this case the coin is superb and the images are an unsatisfactory attempt to capture the look of the coin. Unfortunately, this is what we have for this coin. I haven't seen the cent.

Do you really think that a high profile proof Barber like this, if altered, would get past the graders at PCGS and then again at CAC?

That's a bunch of scrutiny to get past.

Agreed the images presented probably not due justice to the coin, but stating that is PR-67 is artificially toned is ludicrous.

Not sure about juiced as in photoshopped, but it does look like there was excessive light saturation. JMO
Still, though I haven't seen it, bet it's a drop dead gorgous coin! JMO.

There sure are a bunch of prima donnas here, ready to lynch anyone who doesn't hold to their self-avowed lofty high standards. I even like a couple of them, especially when they dismount their high horses and join us mere mortals with feet of clay. image

Giving someone a "pass" for "juicing" a photo to create a representation to market the coin? How dare someone do THAT? Oh, Lord, I hope that I always get a pass from those folks here! Means the world to me, in fact. I couldn't stand the thought of losing their respect.

I too held the coin at FUN, believe me the coin is amazing and all there. Joe is also a pleasure to work with, either buying or selling.

That being said, just a few observations. Any coin I'd buy in the 5 figure range I'd like to see in hand first, hey, but that's just me. I'm no fan of ebay either. However in this case if you like buying coins this way, there is no downside as Joe offers a return guarantee and he will honor it.

Brothers, never seen the coin and I don't know anything about it. Just going from obversation here.

It seems to just travel from dealer to dealer. Where is the collector (or investor)? A lot of you brothers say you looked at it yet all of you have passed.

Not knocking anyone's coin, just wondering, that's all.

Joe has some killer coins for sure but using LED Grow Lights to Juice a photo is not right...

The OP should also take notes as to posters reactions to the juice...

Nice coin, but super juiced photo. I suspect it's not quite as saturated in-hand.

Regarding curly's question, which is quite valid, I have no idea as to the ownership history of this coin. It is true that I examined it in-hand, but I examine scores of coins in-hand at each of these Baltimore shows yet I buy very few coins. For a coin to be purchased by me it typically must meet my criteria for appearance, for perceived value and for the desire to spend my limited funds to bring the piece home with me. Since I am primarily a type collector and much of my set is complete, it is not unusual for me to ask to examine coins that look cool, but that also have very little chance of being purchased by me. Since the coin looked as cool as it did, I asked to examine it, but Joe knew ahead of time that I was not looking for a Barber quarter for my type set.

Sounds like a nice coin, but you can't fault anyone for questioning the photos...
If this coin were to be presented on this board, in different plastic, and by a seller no one knew, almost everyone praising/defending it here, would be exclaiming AT. Not trying to stir anything up, just noting what I have observed in the past...

No problem pm me your address, but what do I get out of it when you see I don't "juice" my pic's? your seal of approval?

No offense but I don't think I really need that...

Just to show I went a head and took 2 quick shots with a slab behind it and white paper under it.

No "juice" color correction or even cropping involved all I did was re size so it wouldn't be so large.

    Thanks,

    Scott
