PBGS - Packages over $300 REQUIRE signature, UPS leaving on doorstep, REPORT TO USMINT

jessewvujessewvu Posts: 5,079 ✭✭✭✭✭
I called the mint to voice my concern about packages worth over $300 left unattended on my doorstep without a signature. The rep I spoke with stated that all packages over $300 require a signature. Apparently, UPS is not honoring that. She said to have all you that have had packages left, call the US Mint with the order number and report it.

Found one on my doorstep today when I got home right out in the open. Fortunately I live in a neighborhood where I'm not too worried about such things these days. But I'll shoot them an email with the order number to add to the pool of complaints anyways.

I think we all should report the problem to keep dishonest people from making false claims about not receiving coins.

I was told today the Fedex will deliver mine because of my zipcode. So believe me I will have to sign for it.

I prefer FedEx because they are very good about enforcing a signature requirement, and their depot here is open on Saturday, unlike the UPS depot. Some of us work Monday to Friday image.

How do you contact the mint by email and get a real response back?

My $500 box on NA Dollars was left on my doorstep.
I decided to change calling the bathroom the John and renamed it the Jim. I feel so much better saying I went to the Jim this morning.

I'm sorry, but UPS has been the worst that I have dealt with concerning things. They routinely leave packages outside in the elements against the door by the driveway instead of walking a few steps and putting items under the porch. I had once purchased the Financial Peace course and the wife and I came home and found it by that door and it had rained. The box was like soggy lasagna noodles. Thank goodness the stuff inside was shrinkwrapped and stayed dry. Sometimes they knock and run. Sometimes they don't. USPS ALWAYS gets my signature when it's required. With Fed Ex I had to go to their shop to pick up a package when I wasn't home to receive it.

I've been getting my packages and I am not going to create a big mess by complaining about it.
If I didn't get them, that would be different.

I've been told I tolerate fools poorly...that may explain things if I have a problem with you. Current ebay items - Nothing at the moment

I'm not expecting a response, I'm just adding to the pile.

Looks like I have to call them anyways, can't find a good email.

Another problem is UPS doesn't insure coins. Whoever loses the first shipment here is in for a fight as USP will show the items delivered.

    you have to watch UPS

they have a "signature waiver" situation where they leave packages w/o being signed for....

years ago they did something like this to me, I called and they said I signed a signature waiver........which I never did and asked them to produce it...

of course, they couldn't and propmtly changed my delivery preference to signatures must always be obtained when requested by shipper....

Fedex used to steal my stuff at the warehouse, so I changed my ship to address and they have been top notch. USPS is good with the signature requirement, but are usually too lazy to knock on the door which results in a trip to the PO, UPS...Well they usually just run over all the squirrels....image

Shortly after the direct ship program started and the first 5 prexys were available, I ordered a brick of each. UPS left $1250 on my stoop! My wife asked me why it was so heavy and I told her it contained 5 bricks. She about fell over when she learned what was in the box. Overall though I've been quite satisfied with the Mint products and the quality and security of their shipping methods.

I have had a P.O. Box since I was a teenager, cannot imagine getting coins at the doorstep. UPS is famous for leaving boxes at our front door, but at least it is cheap garbage and not coins.

    You think I am complaining?

I called the mint to ask if the packages required a signature anymore. The rep stated they did and when I told her I have received several packages that were not signed for, and were over $300, she asked me for those order numbers so she could report it. She asked if there were any other orders and she wanted those too. I thought that most reasonable people here would want their packages signed for, not left on a doorstep, regardless if they are getting them. I figured I could spread the word that the US Mint does want to hear about this issue, and prevent crooks from stealing, I guess you are ok with all that.

The mint is trying to be proactive here, I doubt they want to pay out because their contract carrier is not doing the right thing and having packages come up missing. Remember, this IS a new contract for them. Sheesh....

    I like this approach:

Hello US Mint I ordered a 4 coin set of American Gold Eagles. My account has been charged and it shows they shipped, but I have never received the coins. The tracking number shows they where delivered but no one here at this address signed for them. Could they have been delivered to the wrong address; is there a way to see who signed for them.

I'm pretty sure you would end up with a free set of coins.

I had it happen a couple years back with the Mint and they did send out replacements. They were shown as delivered and they were nowhere to be found and nobody in the house received them.

Of course, it was some silver commems if I remember correctly, not 4 GAEs.

On the other hand, you could end up in prison for fraud. At least you would be popular in prison, as some of the guys are always looking for a pair of fresh buns.
