OK Ike guys, where have the MS top pops been found? Rolls or mint sets?

Have any of the higher grade MS IKE's 66+ ever come out of rolls or mostly mint sets?

Well, all the 66s I have made beyond 1972 have been in mint sets.

The 4 1972D MS66s I have came from rolls-3 in one and 1 in another.

I think its a mixture.

In January of "ought eight", someone came across three 1977 bags of philly IKEs which yielded more than 300 MS66's an 8 MS67's.

For me, I've found 1971-D MS66's in rolls (not really fair since there were no mint sets on these) but never an MS66 in a Mint Set. I've purchased raw coins which have graded MS66 but I have no idea where they came from.

I have located numerous ms-65 and ms66's by stopping in banks and asking if they have any ikes! It does take patience though.....

All the high grade clad's I have found were in 2x2's. I never had any luck with rolls or Mint Sets.

The proportions of choice gems in the pop sheets seem to
be in fairly close agreement with what I see in mint sets
for most dates. This leads me to believe that most of the
highest grade coins come from sets and all in the case of
some dates.

I can't reconcile this with the fact that there are extremely
knowledgeable people who believe that the highest grades
often come from rolls and this especially applies to Ikes. I
think there are two considerations at work which cloud the
issue. First is that there is a lot of correlation each year be-
tween mint set and roll quality and second that many collec-
tors consider strike and die quality to be of relatively minor
importance in comparison to clean surfaces. It can be almost
impossible to find some mint set Ikes with clean surfaces.

There are many modern coins that you could look through
dozens or even hundreds of rolls without finding a nice coin
far less a gem. Comparatively finding gems in mint sets is
like shooting fish in a barrel with most coins being around
2% of production and almost all between .25 and 6%.
