Is this 1909 Matte proof Lincoln one for the Posse?

  I say no based upon the rims and the strike. It's been cleaned as well.

  That's quite a bit of cash for an uncertified matte proof... I think it's $500 less than last week though... For $3k there's some awfully pretty 1909 matte proofs available that are already in PCGS holders.

  Blow up the reverse image and you can see the two diagnostic die polish lines between the rim and wheat ear, to the left of UNITED. I compared the image with one of my 09's and the diagnostics are without a doubt present. Also, as we have established, the Reverse C diagnostic scratch is not on this coin, as it should not be on the proof. So,it is a proof.
  
  ?Why did he want to grade it MS?, just a slip of the pen perhaps since after 40 years collecting you would catch on that the designation needs to be PR or PF. Hmmmmm.
  
  I can't grade this, I don't like the color. It could, if not just entombed in a gennie, go BN. All the red, the real red, is gone. Unless of course the ditigal pictures for this coin are not accurate.

  I just think that if you're going to list an uncertified MPL, you should at least make it easy to see the diagnostics. I say no MPL, pending investigation.

  Agreed. Cannot see any classic diagnostics or surface texture, it shows an uneven rim width on the obverse as well as 6:00 O'Clock beveling, and lacks strike detail. Without seeing better photos or in-hand, I have doubts.

  I have compared this coin to graded examples from PCGS and Heritage and in my opinion would grade out minimum at MS64-65 Red.
  
  MS is correct!....thats no more a matte proof than I'm Matt Damon
