coin world article made me wonder.

....i read an article in coin world about laminations. it was interesting and got me to wonder about slabbed coins. the article said that a lamination is caused by the improper mixing of metals, especially manganese, with other metals such as copper. it can cause the coin to experience a lamination of the metal that makes it an error coin because of the separation appearance. what surprised me was the article said this can occur at any time on a coin and has even appeared on coins decades old! my question. if you had a coin, such as a 1909-s-vdb in red ms-65 cent, and it developed a lamination within the guarantee period, how would the tpgs handle the complaint? this is a hypothetical question.image

It's most improbable that this would happen inside a holder. If it
were strong enough to hold together in circulation then it would
    in the holder.

"Lamination" is not a problem. "Delamination" is the problem, and that is what it should be called.

I think the more interesting question is what is the oldest coin that suddenly developed a lamination issue?

Could someone provide a link or PM me the story? I heard a dealer complaining about how PCGS bagged an S VDB he sent in for "Planchet Flaw" and it was heavily woodgrained. I tried telling him it was unstable, but he wouldn't listen. Thanks in advance.
