Auctions in the January FUN Signature Sale that I'll be watching VERY closely.

RussRuss Posts: 48,514 ✭✭✭
The interesting thing about these coins is that the last time examples graded at this level came to market was in the January 2008 FUN sale. So, it will be one year later, and the same sale.

1965 PCGS MS67DCAM SMS Kennedy.

Sold for $12,650 last time around, and it's the same coin.

1966 PCGS MS68DCAM SMS Kennedy.

Sold for $10,925 last time around, and it's the same coin.

1967 PCGS MS68DCAM SMS Kennedy.

Sold for $5750 last time around, but it was a different coin. This is example is signficantly better than the last one.

1964 PCGS PR68DCAM Accented Hair Kennedy.

Sold for $12,650 last time around, and it's the same coin.

I'm eagerly looking forward to it! But I have a high tolerance for pain.

I think the 2009 auction season is going to be a blood bath.......not the kind we are used to. I hope the Kennedys do well for you Russ.

I just saw my email with my want list items. Some gorgeous stuff...but way out of my reach.

Maybe I'll have to sell everything else I own in the next few weeks to make a newp. image

    Russ,
    have the populations changed much?

I remember someone showing their 1964 PR68 DCAM on the registry forum that they just made

do you think the seller 's (previous buyer) plan was to sell exactly one year later?

does Heritage give commssion breaks to big consignors?

and what about reserve not met fees?

I will be watching but not bidding.

Let's not forget that the 1967 is from the Birthmark Die - Heritage is lax in not noting that.

You should bid on the Accented Hair. It's formerly Jay Ross Collection. image

Russ- what are your predictions for selling prices?

A lot less than last time. Of course last time my predictions were low, so who knows? But, I do think the market is softer now then it was a year ago.

    Internet closing comparisons:

    1964 AH:
    2008 - $10,925
    2009 - $7475

    1965 SMS:
    2008 - $10,925
    2009 - $7475

    1966 SMS:
    2008 - $9775
    2009 - $6900

    1967 SMS:
    2008 - $5462.50
    2009 - still active

I can't see the floor auction making up the difference.

64 AH Sold for $11.5k. Not too shabby in this environment.

I'm surprised, (pleasantly, of course), that it held up that well.

The final coin, the 1967 SMS, brought $9775 making it the only one that beat last year.

I think there's a perceived scarcity due to excessive hoarding. image
