Need some info for the following token (medal?)

OPAOPA Posts: 17,142 ✭✭✭✭✭
My brother in law gave me this medal some time ago. I know it's not silver but silver plate. I suspect the token was produced in late 1944 or early 1945 by the NAZI's in honor of Hitlers 56th B'day (4/20/1943) but I can't find any info anywhere ...

I did find one on Ebay, but I don't know if that helps or not. The seller doesn't give a lot of details other that the ones you seem to know already.

Thanks DG for the eBay link ... Nothing there that I didn't already knew....

BTW ... I believe the sellers translation is only partially correct... should read: "One People, One Country & One Leader"

    ADOLF HITLER
    BIRTH - DEATH
    COMMEMORATIVE
    COIN IN 900
    FINE SILVER

This is an excellent example of a big, 900 fine silver (sterling) coin that was made in Germany in 1989 to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the birth of Germany’s 23rd Chancellor in Braunau, Austria on 20 April 1889.

The German Government of course, was not amused. They have done everything in their power to help people to forget that Hitler once held the job of Helmut Kohl and Gerhard Schröder. The coins were driven from the market shortly after they began to sell and we suspect that few survive.

The 1-3/8 inch (35 mm) coin was professionally struck in a fine high-relief die. The obverse features a realistic “frosted” view of the right side of Adolf Hitler’s face against a brightly polished background centered in the words ADOLF HITLER 1889 - 1945.
The reverse has a one inch (25 mm) Hoheitszeichen or German National Emblem (eagle and swastika) centered in the words EIN VOLK, EIN REICH, EIN FÜHRER (One People, One State, One Leader). The coin has a milled edge and is in close to perfect condition. Hard to find.

Thanks for the info, but I'm unable to confirm the info that is given on the above website. It's hard to immagine, that the German Gov't would even consider striking such a medalion, since anything Hitler or NAZI related, is against the law in Germany. It may have been minted by a private Mint, but which one? The eBay seller claims it's not 90% silver but silver plate.

I doubt the veracity of the above story about it being minted in Germany. This was much more likely created in the United States during that time, and appealed to Neo Nazi types that cater to such junk.

    The above story is a crock...and it's a medal, not a coin.

Colbert has it listed under the Fantasies/Modern as C-404. This medal is poorly struck in an undetermined non-silver alloy and was so poorly executed the first go around that Adolf was spelled "Adolph".

No values are given in Colbert/Hyder but a guesstiment would place its value somewhere in the range of any modern white metal tokens...in other words, not a whole lot.

Thanks ... I suspected that ... Does Colbert indicate who struck the Medal?

Sorry OPA...nothing. But there appears a very similar token that could have been struck about the same time and it has a 1967 date on it. These could have been made here in the US for some kind of skin-head (actually, they were called neo-nazi's in 1967) activities. Pure conjecture on my part as I don't follow the contemporary pro-hitler movements. When you think about it though, why would a government sanction its striking...pretty sure it was privately produced.

You could always contact the folks at www.luckylukeonline.com
They have a great knowledge of the Third Reich coins and such and may know where these came from.
