Well, that's one way to blow $500.... Pastor Ted would have other designs for five C-notes, but as the official curator of the MWS (that's short for the Museum of Worthless Slabs, for those of you who are new to the high culture of card collecting) I'd like to personally commend you for this socially uplifting allocation of funds!

Sorry about that-- I couldn't help it. And I actually wouldn't be such a smart ass if I hadn't had my fair share of subs that looked just like this. So, if it's any consolation rest assured that I have been in the exact spot you're currently in-- multiple times. What can I say? I'm a slow learner. Although as Julen and I have discussed via PMs, one way to satiate the craving for grading useless modern cards without losing your jockey shorts in the process is to look closely at the pop reports before wrapping up those cardboard beauties and sending 'em off to Newport Beach. If you send in nothing but low pops you can at least usually get $8 or so for a run of the mill 9, and now and then you'll get a pleasant surprise-- like the '83 OPC Pete Rose Sticker in PSA 9 that I recently auctioned off for about $165.

Anyway, best of luck finding a home for all these. And while I'm on the subject of finding a home for off grade cards, did you ever receive the box of 20 or so PSA cards that I mailed you a few weeks ago?

I hate to be bearer of bad news but I did some quick math on just your 89 Grifs.

    Pop Report
    20,577 9's 55%
    1166 10's 3%
    37428 Total Sub's

    Your Subs
    13 9's 76%
    2 10's 11%
    17 Total Sub's

So it seems that you did better than the average split based on the Pop Report for just the Grif's

I know this isn't what you want to hear... but subs like this actually give me more faith in the PSA process... I'd like to think that 10's really are the exception as opposed to the rule.

I wouldn't mind seeing a few scans of some of those 87 Donruss or 89 Fleer... you know how condition sensitive the front edges of the 87 Donruss and the back bottom edge of the 89 Fleer are...

Although I firmly do believe that PSA is prejudiced against the wood grain of 1987 Topps... it's like they give it an automatic 1 point deduction for being both cool and tacky at the same time (I'm kidding, mostly).
Nolan Ryan & Edgar Martinez are my favorite players...

Sorry you didn't get more 10's, but at least they're mostly rookies. That's not as bad as getting that same distribution with a bunch of '89 Fleer Mike Pagliarulo's.

If a guy's submitting 1989 F Mike Pagliarulo's then as far as I'm concered he deserves to get bent over the rail.

All of this talk about terrible subs has got me thinking. Does anyone remember who that board member was that sent in something like fourteen hundred 1981 and 1986 Topps cards during the July special? The results were just brutal-- something like three 10's for the 1986 Topps, and a handful more for the 1981's. Talk about pitching $7000 into the wind.

Cool, glad they arrived there safe and sound. I've got your address on file, so once I've built up another round of bad slabs I'll send 'em off.

    Good Day,
Yeah you got hammered, and it is the usual pendilum swing in the wrong direction. I've gotten plenty of sub's that looked similar. Fortunitly the Latter part of last year brought me some really nice ones and then my last two have been hammered. So I hate top be selfish, but every one that I see like this means the odds are 1 less I'll get hammered on one of the Sub's I have in.
