1812/1 Large 8 Bust Half O-101?
OK can someone put me back to earth? I am seeing things? Or is this really the big boy? I see all the diagonstics, Recut N, A M joined together, Spacing between Star 13 and the 2. Large 8, the dice cracks. This might be 101a? Help please.

Thanks in advance!

<< <i>Nice coin...and yep, it's O101a. Did you cherry this one? If so...well done!
Lane >>
Well I cannot say I cherried it. That would mean I know what I was looking at fully.
<< <i>Yea I think you have a $3000 coin there send it to PCGS >>
Why PCGS over NGC? I would think most collectors of this sort of coin would crack it out of the holder? So as long as come sale time it was in a holder stating it as such, then it should be ok? Unless someone wanted this coin for a PCGS registry.
Wow, dreams do come true. Purchased at a show? Online?
Congratulations!

Well...then you just suck...big time.
Seriously, very well done and it's always nice to see that some of the tough ones are just waiting for us to find them.
And you are correct about most serious CBH collectors...they would just crack it out.

I would tag it as VF-25 mostly from the strength of the reverse.
<< <i>I feel this coin will be quite deceptive as far as coming up with a grade goes.

I agree (and mentioned to Bruce in a PM)...soft obverse, strong reverse with the overall grade a VF-25.

It has already been established that YOU SUCK, but how much? What did you pick it for?

A song... I would believe...

<< <i>SOB - not only rare but a great looking coin as well!! >>
The look was what first pulled me to the coin. Then I noticed the die cracks.
One good way to determine it is to compare it with a raw eBay coin labeled "1812/11 Large 8". If your coin matches the eBay coin, then it definitely IS NOT an 1812/11 Large 8.
Same rule holds for the 1830 Large Letters half.

Ain't that the truth!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
<< <i>Why the 1830 Large letters rule? Are people that bad at telling the 2 apart? >>
And that coin would draw 5-6 K at auction holdered by either service.

To be 100% honest, if I sell this coin (Not sure I am yet) I will go back to my local dealer and give him a nice tip. Just the kind of person I am.
@ Mozin why PCGS over NGC? I understand generally PCGS brings more, but in a coin of this nature does it matter whose holder it is in really?
@ Mailbockaddict - Which coin would bring 5 or 6K? Mine or the 30 Large Letters?
In general people are overpaying for PCGS plastic at auctions.
If you are going to keep it, enjoy it raw.
It sure would be a great start to a Bust Half Die Marriage collection (450 different die marriages from 1807-1836).........but be warned, you'll have the fever forever.
Congrats,
Alan
