Current and All Time Finest question??????

What is the difference between Current and All Time Finest Sets? Are the ATF sets not listed in the Current Finest list collections that have been registered once then retired or broken up?

Enjoy your coins....

    GQ,

The all time finest include sets that currently in existance and those that have been retired... a.k.a. broken up and sold. The coins are floating around out there somewhere, but the set no longer exists. For instance, the LaBute collection is now listed in the all time finest, but the set has been dispersed. Therefore, since the set does not currently exist, it is not included in the current finest section.

Several registered sets currently have coins from the LaBute collection.

In some sets, historical greats like Eliasberg and such are listed in the All-Time Finest, with an estimated grade, since these folks were well before the advent of PCGS and slabbing in general. However, many of the coins from such famous collections are still known and individually recognized today.

Collector since 1976. On the CU forums here since 2001.

Well.........I don't want to step on any toes and I am more than happy with the registry but it seems that a set broken up no longer exists. I am also very far from ever having a top set but does the awards go to ATF or Current finest sets. Also, would anyone be interested in the Registry showing "gross" scores. Gross scores being the total without any sort of deductions. This score would be for nothing more than comparing the set with its make-up of FS, FB, FH, Weights, etc. Just some idle thoughts on a boring Saturday....

    Enjoy your coins....I do

it sure is a rather quiet saturday night, ain't it GQ?? where is your line of thinking headed to in regards to a set which is no longer together? it seems as though you figure it should be struck from any sort of recognition. the title "All Time Finest" is fairly self-explanatory.

Hi....I am not going no where with my line of thinking(Easy for me). I am totally apolitical on the subject. Top sets and collectors get my total admiration. Top sets and collectors are "here" on this registry and forum. If anything I just want it clarified so I can understand the two.
