    Yo Zep, I've been meaning to ask you this for awhile now, but did you ever sell that Jonathan Stewart Red Ink Rookie auto you pulled earlier this year?

    He's had a great year so far.

    I wonder what prompt them to post a message like that. Was there a rumor going around hinting that PSA is going down or something?

    This is likely in reference to a post on Net54 that someone pointed out to me yesterday. I'm sure many of you read it. I have no link (and I don't wish to be banned), but I imagine that's what PSA was referring to when they say that they hear that something's afoot.

    Mudslinging thread on Net 54 is what prompted it. I didnt really think it needed justifying though IMHO

    So long as part of Joe's bonus system is based on him getting a tanning bed in his office if submissions increase, PSA will always do fine image

    Good message from JO.

    Folks who want to read more detailed confirmation of JO's
    FACTUAL assertions can do so on Yahoo Finance. Simply
    click on the SEC Filings link on the CLCT info page.

    The whole story is there, and it's just like JO says it is.

    bashing that routinely occurs on another card site. Maybe folks
    have noticed, that kind of spontaneous slime-tossing directed
    at the other reputable TPGs never happens on this board.

    Bashing-threads that appear to violate SEC Regs can be reported to

    What a bunch of morons over there.

    Collectors Universe really should consider taking legal action against that card forum and its members who post ridiculous statements that hurt CU. Then perhaps those morons would think twice before posting false information to hurt CU.

    I read what the post said...it was using "fact" based analysis. There was nothing illegal...it was just speculative. I don't necessarily agree with those facts, but the guy didn't do anything punishable IMHO.

    The title on that thread looks false. Or is PSA is really going out of business?

    That post was written merely to cause harm to PSA and CU's businesses.

    The subject headline is a blatant violation of old/new SEC guidelines.

    Having run more than my share of bashing-for-dollars enterprises,
    I can report that such a headline/title would be a firing-offense.

    Six-weeks ago, under pressure, the guidelines on fair-comment

    "... to fund a speculative diamond grading business..."

    ////////////////

    Trying to topple/displace GIA will always be a "tough one."

    My initial reaction was that surely the services will be aimed -
    at least in part - directly at end-users and retail consumers.

    Every year, MILLIONS of folks ask their local jewelers to write
    insurance "appraisals." THAT was/is the market that GCAL
    could have cleaned-up in. (The other CLCT divisions ALL know
    the protocol for dealing with "consumer submissions." GCAL
    should have tried it long ago, and they should try it tomorrow.)

    Every shopping network on TV is moving TONS of "collectible
    gems" that could be graded at a profit. Seems the cash-eater
    could easily be changed into a cash-cow.

    I didn't read the post over at Net54 although I might read it later - But having been a member there, and although I haven't posted or even lurked there in a long time, I can fairly much imagine what that post says. There are times they are a bit out of control over there, and I mean that in a repetitive, boring way which made it uninteresting to me.

    In my opinion the management of PSA was likely responding to the drop in CU stock price, and not over a post on some internet forum. I didn't look at CLCT today, but their stock shares have simply not done well, and of course the bad decline of the stock market has something to do with that - However CLCT has performed considerably worse than the stock market averages.

    I know nothing about "the diamond and gemstone business" or CU's foray into it, but for sure that business is much bigger, and much tougher, and much more competitive than grading coins and cards. So we'll see what happens in that regard, but in any event, getting out a letter such as this was a smart thing to do.

    I read the thread over there, and I am yawning profusely.

    Two things:

    1. A first year law clerk at the courthouse would throw out any suit in that regard. There is nothing libelous there and it's not even close.

    2. That thread is a pathetic waste of time to read. Around ten minutes of my life wasted that I will never get back, that I could of spent wisely on smack in the Sports Talk forum. LOL

    I don't really disagree with that finding. It is not a "libel" issue.

    The discussion I was having was about false statements,
    as the same are contemplated by the SEC.

    There is still - and always will be - wide latitude. The line
    gets crossed when a blatant falsehood is stated as a fact.

    Storm - I think it's basically understood that chat in internet forums is taken as "opinion" which it should be. If anyone wants to believe any particular post, then that's their prerogative.

    There's probably literally hundreds, if not thousands of posts each day in internet forums with posters stating and predicting how particular companies are going out of business, and in a more mean spirited manner than the OP over there.

    If you've ever seen just for one, the Yahoo financial commentaries from the public, you'll know what I mean - "Every" company with their stock price going down is "going out of business" according to somebody. Even from a number of "well respected" journalists, I have read their articles about the big 3 American auto companies going out of business.

    The title and the post over there is a non-issue as far as libel is concerned, and the article itself is a non-issue as far as I am concerned. image

    ///////////////////////////////

    It is a "non-issue."

    But, the issue is not "libel."

    ...........

    By summer of next year, Yahoo Finance will likely be a ghost town;
    except for retail folks looking for semi-reliable info.

    The new stuff being considered by the SEC will alter the landscape
    at all of the pumper/basher sites.

    Opinions will always be pretty much just fine.

    "Company XYZ is so messed up it will be bankrupt by next quarter." No problem.

    "My broker's wife works at company XYZ and she says the company is going bankrupt next week." That is a problem.

    Yahoo removes THOUSANDS of posts and deletes countless IDs, each week.
    Most violators simply reregister and start over, until they are TOSd again.

    As new regs come into effect, IP-blocking will be instituted and proxy-sites
    will stop connecting to Yahoo.

    ///////////////

    Even under current regs, the hedgies that hire bashers tell all of them to "ONLY tell the truth."

    I think it is a good time to buy stocks right now if you are willing to sit on them for 5 years. I still think in 6 months it would be a better time to buy stocks. I have never been a stock market person. I rely on other things such as gold, CD accounts, real estate, being a good saver and being a savy shopper.

    again I dont know who would buy cu stock.Its kinda like taking money and just burning it.My opinion of course.If people want to bash cu more power to them.Just dont do it on this board or your liable to get tossed.As for that book ,I dont believe that bs story.My 200 greatest sportscard book fell apart like a cheap diaper.Obviously quality control on that book wasnt a concern.Who knows? You notice he said i dont know what happened to the bad books.People said its ok send me that one.No response to those people of course.Cu dont delete my posts.We are YOUR customers for the most part.Customer is king where i come from.The company that acts like their doing you a favor by giving you their service will be short lived.Most card stores were that way.Thats why you dont see very many anymore.Thanks for listening guys.
