ASE question...

Hi Folks-

I recently purchased a 2008 W ASE Proof and a 1995 W ASE proof, both in NGC slabs.

I noticed that the field of the 08 is absolutely mirror-like and flawless. Same on the 06 ASE proof in my anniversary set in OGP.

The field of the 95 proof, which is in a new style NGC holer and thus recently graded, has some subtle, for lack of a better term, smudge areas and very tiny spots which look like dust spots. Some of the latter may be reflections of slight slab inperfectons on the morrored field. These subtle "smudge" areas are visible when the coin is viewed at various angles under a light.

My question: is this normal for ASE proofs as they age. The best I can tell from the pics on ebay ads for the 95 Ws, some seem to have this but Ebay photos are very variable in quality.

Any comments would be most appreciated.

Thanks!

Sounds like "milk spots" - they seem to be very common on silver eagles. There is no getting rid of them that I have heard of.
You can do a search here for milk spots and a whole bunch of information will come up - photos even so you can compare to yours.
    good luck.
