The QDB Gold Dollars book is a Doug Winter love-fest...I have never read another QDB book with such
I have been slowly reading the latest QDB Redbook Series book on Gold Dollars. The book is excellent, and I have been reading a few pages per night. Most of my reading time lately has been taken up with The House of Morgan, though.
As a of lot of people know, I have read most of QDB's books. However, this Gold Dollar book is a bit unusual in a particular aspect. The book seems to be a Doug Winter love-fest, which, in turn, gets Longacre whipped up into a frothy frenzy as well. Reading the words of QDB, and then seeing Winter's name and reputation invoked regularly throughout, is almost too much for me to handle.
For example, in the book, QDB typically states a premise, such as how many coins he thinks are in existance. Then he quotes Walter Breen's theory on the numbers, and proceeds to shred him to ribbons. Then he trots out Doug Winter, and comments on how many Winter thinks are in existance. In a lot of instances, QDB either defers to Winter, or uses Winter's research as support.
Personally, if a world-famous dealer quoted my name and research regularly, I would be very impressed and humbled (as I am sure Winter is). I have never seen so many references to another dealer/researcher in a QDB book before, though.
Has anyone else noticed this, and what do you think?
