1876 20 cent Piece: What grade and would it slab?

I graded it EF-45, in person all letters in LIBERTY are clearly visable

my opinion is 40 if the fields are free of hairlines.......as far as i know, the LIBERTY gauge cannot be used in this series for grading

What about the rim? Is it ok? If so IMO it could 40, prolly 35 though.

seated and earlier always surprizes me receiving less then grades to me

would it slab...halo's can be concerning and couldn't tell ya from that pic

I really want this slabbed, or at least after monday to get this in a genuine PCGS holder. Either way you just cant find a coin like this out there.

Boy you guys are tough...

From a stand point of wear this coin looks like a high end AU. I can't tell if it is cleaned and retoned, but my gut reaction is that it is original.

Of course I could be wrong.

If Liberty is full and stong (can't tell if photo is blurry) it might squeak an AU-50.

Look at Heritage, they have an 1876 AU details up right now- it looks similar to your coin.

I took this coin to Baltimore with me last week and a couple guys whom i showed it to were saying ef-45 maybe 50. I also asked a PCGS grader that I know and he said 50/50 on the slab. So what I would like is other opinions about it. I appreciate everyone here who has responded.

ive seen alot worse looking get slabbed, thats what makes me consider it a candidate

I don't think the luster is there to get it in AU plastic.

From the images, the coin appears to have the detail of an EF-40. The detail in Ms. Liberty's head is not strong enough and the eagle's talons are a bit too worn to warrant a higher grade. The surfaces look a bit odd as if it has been cleaned and retoned. With that said, I would have to see the piece in hand to give a more accurate opinion as to whether or not it would be returned in a body bag.

Nice detail, however, on this underrated, low-mintage coin.

Looks XF40. Not sure it would slab though. One day it would and another day it would BB. I've had two 20 cent pieces in my collecting, and both were 1876. I like the date. I'd keep it raw. Nice album coin for the right person.

Looks 40-ish to me, but I would say 45 is not out of the question. Even 50 on a really good day.

Regardless of the technical grade, I like the appearance of the coin.
