What is going on with this 1922 S Peace $ - Error?

jmcu12jmcu12 Posts: 2,452 ✭✭✭
I came across this 1922 S Peace Dollar. Normally I am not into the series but since I am into errors it caught my attention.

Please take a look at the pic. There is a ring going around the perimete of the coin, it is raised, but I am not sure what it is.

Any ideas?

That is interesting but I will defer to those who actually know what they are talking about.

  • Die pressure set too high. Operator was trying to get the details onto the coin and turned it up. Common on 22-s due to week strikes and shortened die life. Not really a premium in her..

I would say low pressure strike rather than high pressure. The die seems well worn, and they may have been trying to make it last a bit longer.
